Theater:
This is a cool intro song. Its up beat, and the guitar work in this song is really nice. I like this one! Also got some cool vocal work, and I found myself singing along even though it was the first time Id heard the song. Nice.

Pompeii:
Also a good song. Keeps the energetic atmosphere of Theater continuing, and again, some nice vocal work on this one. I also quite like the lyrics on this one, and I found the song rather addictive.

The Guilt Engine:
3/3 so far. This one is catchy in its music, and so far this has the most earnest lyrics of the three songs I have heard on this album. I like the backing vocal effects behind the verses, and the guitar seems a bit dialed back in this one; which is neither a good or bad thing just something I noticed.

A Mind Of Metal And Wheels:
I love the guitar riffs during the verses, its kind of a shred. The chorus of this one is also pretty catchy, found myself humming along with it. Its quick and to the point, running at a mere 2 minutes long and that's it. Pretty dang good song. It has some stand out moments, but its the weaker of the 4 songs so far.

Fable:
This is a pretty lax and smooth song considering the ones that came before it; although I kind of found it a little dull and zoned out a couple times during the song. It was alright enough, but it had so much more promise when the track first started. I was kind of meh on this one. Not bad, not great. Just kind of there.

The Giant's Drink:
This is more like it! Starts off with a really cool riff intro, and then has this energy that doesn't let up through the whole song. Guitar is on point, the vocals are great, and so are the lyrics. Also those are some ferocious drums in the song! I love the 'bum bum bum bump BUM BUM' kind of strumming going on in the verses. This is probably my favorite song so far on the album.

Shhhhh! I'm Listening To Reason:
Another fiery intro, I can dig this. This is another song with the ferocity of the previous song; great shreds that you will be humming along with, along with some nice beats from the guitar/drum combos that I found rather infectious to listen to. They had hit a weak spot with two songs, but these last two have picked up the pace.

Meet Me At The Tavern In Bowerstone:
HAHAHAHAHAHA! YES! I love this song title!! (I was a big Fable fan, and that was the first thing that came to mind when I saw a song named Fable; so seeing this reference is awesome)). But anyway, as a song. It is a nice solid little 27 song.

Your Only Escape:
This song is pretty good. This one again keeps up the pace of the past two songs before the small interlude song. I will say I have noticed that these guys have some great yet simplistic guitar riffs in most of these songs; nothing too complicated or insane but they are still really dang good and not bland at all. This one has some cool echoing vocal works too, and the verses are pretty good ear grabbing before a nice beating chorus.

The Hunter:
Hot damn that intro. That's a good one. This is a more up beat and lively song on the album, probably the most energetic one that I have heard so far on here. That helps it stand out above the others a bit, as well as some nice lyrics and catchy vocals. Not bad at all.

Speaker For The Dead:
This isn't a bad song by any means, but for some reason I feel like I heard this song on this album already. Again, it isn't bad, but it kind of sounds like some of the previous songs on the album and is kind of lacking something that makes it stand out from the earlier songs.

Badlands:
This was a bit more like it! They do some cool echoing and repeating vocal work on this one before a nice and catchy song lets off; both vocally and musically. This one has some of the most different vocal work on the album, and the guitars are on point with this one. Pretty pretty good, I would put this one near the top on the album for me

The Loosing Of The Shadow:
This one starts off nice and slow, before hauntingly and slowly building up to the 1:00 mark where shit just explodes into a rapid fire song for them. Nice one, and a dang good closer for this album. This is up there with the higher songs on the album, mainly for the cool vocals in this song, and some pretty dang good lyrics. It ended the album on a good note as well.

7/10. Not a bad album. There were a few parts where it seemed kinda samey, but there was still something to acknowledge or like even on the songs I found kinda weaker on the album. Id probably listen to this one, and it wasn't too bad for their third album. Not bad at all.

Nice review. I think Gatsbys is more of a grower and their songs are earworms.for sure.

Also not their debut its their 3rd full length, also somewhat of a concept album if you're interested in that.

Thanks for putting City Calm Down on my radar! I listened to it for the first time today and listened a little more tonight when I was cleaning. Really enjoyable!
