I went into this album expecting to hate it based on “Oh No” and “Chaise Longue” but I liked it more than I was expecting. Decent record but overhyped. I really like the songs when they aren’t trying so hard to be snarky or clever. “I Don’t Want To Go Out” and “Piece of Shit” are my favorites.
I think the delivery and the lyrics go hand in hand. Lines like "you're like a piece of shit, you either sink or swim" would be pretty awful in the hands of most artists, but Rhian delivers it with such dry sincerity that it works. Same with a lot of "Oh No". "Pizza rat, I like that" is something I would normally roll my eyes at, but the sarcastic way she sings it is great.
“you’re so woke, Diet Coke” is one of those lines for me that with differently delivery or a different artist would be a wtf moment but not here
Rhian is so good a switching up her singing style that on my first few listens I was convinced Hester must have been doing lead vocals for a couple of tracks.
Still seems super weak that they don't even play all 12 songs off the album (or the bonus 7 inch songs).
Ehhh...I'm okay with losing "Loving You." I don't know either of those B-sides, but that does kind of suck they're not playing those. Maybe they just want them to be B-sides for a reason. Either way, they're playing everything I want to hear and I hope the scream in "Ur Mum" is cathartic.
Not so much a comment on them in that I've noticed bands with like 15 song catalogs still playing 11-12 song sets on a headlining tour even if they're doing 1-2k capacity rooms which seems lazy.
