Started listening to a Westworld podcast over the weekend in preparation for the new season next month and man I'm getting pumped. With no GOT this year HBO must be holding their breaths that Westworld season 2 really takes off and becomes their next big hit.
Apparently that ARG recreation of Sweetwater at SXSW was mind-blowing. Sounded really, really cool, like the real thing only with actors instead of androids.
Yeah it does a breakdown on each episode. It's called Watching Westworld by a website called Bald Move. They do podcasts for a bunch of shows.
their music cues. the story. the acting. the show in general. i wish i liked this as much as everyone else. it’s much more entertaining to discuss and read theories about than it is to actually watch the show.
It's definitely a clusterfuck of a bunch of good ideas, some well-executed and some poorly done. In a way, it reminds me of American Horror Story (if it were to take itself much less seriously), in that it verges on the edge of its own potential. I definitely can see how you'd find the music corny, as do I, but the performances are undeniably pretty great--I'd say, in some cases, the acting holds up pretty shoddy writing. There are some cool concepts story-wise, but at times it really does feel like an overdone Black Mirror episode- constantly smashing the "MINDBLOWING TWIST" button until it no longer works. I think the show's worst failing was the dullness of the first half of the season. I actually felt in the last episode, in which all the twists are revealed, I had a much bigger investment in the story/characters because I finally knew what was what. Constantly being toyed with with multiple and repeated timelines, secret identities and motives--actually managed to bore me to death. I think if the second season were written with a little more consistency and didn't focus so much on pleasing its audience with plot-twists, then I'll be much happier with the show overall.
Season 2 looks hype. I can't tell you all how happy I am to have a big budget sci-fi series like this on the air. It's so cool.
