I mean the bernard = arnold reveal was obvious. But I thought Bernards struggle with it was well done.
dear god the writers for this show really go out of their way to shove the god damn twist down your throat before they even reveal it
really just increases my feeling that everyone there besides ford (and arnold before his death) are hosts
My girlfriend didn't see it coming til last night, and she doesn't read anything about the show online and I hadn't told her anything, is she dumb?!?!?!?
what im talking about in-show its very strange that no one at the company knows what the guy who helped invent everything looks like especially since ford had a picture of him in his office it looked like??
OH yes I totally was thinking that too. Ford mentioned that it had "been a long time" since he saw his face, when he woke up Bernard for the first time, but there had to be at least someone around since both of them, right?
you would think so but apparently not? i saw someone say that logan mentioned how his lawyers couldnt find anything about arnold? idk it seems bizarre lol
I couldn't stop thinking this after the reveal. Everyone talked about him like they either knew him personally, or at least knew who he was. Also, when Ford first showed Bernard the picture of him and Arnold, I couldn't help but think he was showing him a different picture. Turns out, he just cut a third of it off instead of using another pic. Do we know who the other guy in the picture is?
I could be wrong, but I think it was the same picture, it just looked different to Bernard the first time he saw it. The hosts apparently can't see certain things unless they are allowed to (like when Bernard couldn't see the doorway that lead into Ford's basement). So, the second time Bernard sees the photo, Ford is "letting" him see it for what it is. But yeah, I'm with everyone else. Either they've got some explanation planned for why no one recognized Bernard (everyone is a host) or that is just a big plot hole...
I don't expect Bernard not seeing himself in the photo to be addressed anymore. That's exactly what happened. That's quite a plot hole for a show that is very carefully crafted. Even back in Logan's time there seems to be a great mystery surrounding Arnold. Considering how ahead of everyone Ford always seems to be I wouldn't be surprised if he covered Arnold up somehow. The Charlotte and MiB interaction was very interesting. We really haven't learned much about Delos/the board this season. We'll see I guess. Most of my friends and family did not see anything that happened coming. If anything, I hear complaints that it's TOO difficult to follow. On the other hand, people online called things down to the photo that Abernathy found being Logan's sister. I like that the show gives you enough to discuss and figure things out. I prefer this level of foreshadowing to random twists out of left field. There are so many little details and conversations the mean different things on a re-watch of this show. A chronological cut of the season would be interesting.
As for the whole criticism that someone would have recognized Bernard as being a copy of Arnold, I think the big reveal will be that a good chunk of the workers at Westworld are actually hosts as well. And as Ford did with Bernard, I'm sure he had everyone programmed to not see Arnold's image in any photos there may be of him.
I agree, they are good at foreshadowing but people in this day and age beat the details to death and unravel anything that was meant to be subtle. It's hard to catch everything unless you have thousands of people speculating together lol There's definitely more going on than I understand. What I didn't quite get was why a young Ford flew out of that room past Dolores looking for Arnold, but he just ignored all of the bodies on the ground. It could have just been overlapping timelines or something.
No one noticing Bernard and Arnold being identical is the first thing to truly make me upset at this show. I guess they could explain their way out of it.
They already did, most of the people said they never knew of Arnold. Also Bernard was made at least sometime after Arnold's death. Arnold died in the early years when they had small staff
I think they've made more than enough references to the fact that Arnold was essentially wiped from the collective memories of the park before Bernard was created. All of the employees are gone. Ford has mentioned more than once that the employee turnover is significant and that Bernard was the only old employee left. Logan said the co-creator was wiped from the records in a scene from the 30-years-ago-timeline talking to William. I think they've done enough to explain away people remembering Arnold.
I mean, I'm aware of the situation. Ford obviously tried to erase Arnold from existence (though he talks about him all the damn time). I think most people just feel like if this park were so big and has a board of directors, there would be SOMEONE who would stumble upon the fact that there is a fucking robot replica of the park's creator working there. Even if his identity is well hidden, I'm sure Arnold/Bernard's history will be a discovery and will be a huge plot point later on.
