Somehow missed that he announced this. The three singles out are all phenomenal. ‘Your Hero Is Not Dead’ is one of the great underrated 2020s records imo. Stoked for this.
Can’t wait for this, discovered Your Hero is Not Dead recently when investigating whether this dude Twain would be opening for is good himself. Turns out he is! Thought this was coming out a week or two earlier, which is a slight bummer, but one of my more anticipated of the year at the moment.
Your Hero Is Not Dead is an album I’m very thankful to have tied to my summer of 2020. It was a big comfort record for me, and listening to it still takes me right back to that time and feeling The singles for this new one have been awesome, can’t wait to hear it
Yeah I’m a huge fan of this. Album of the year contender in my opinion. Just a massive show of creativity, melodicism, and growth from where he’s been in his previous work. Krivchenia threw the kitchen sink at this production and it all lands beautifully for me. I think this hangs together a lot better as a full album than the singles might have suggested, and it’s kind of the opposite of last time where the singles were strong but the album didn’t quite drive as much replayability for me.
I used to think about artists like Talk Talk and John Matryn, but for this record I think Bon Iver is a good reference.
Haven’t really had a chance to get to this yet, tried on Friday night but could tell I wasn’t really in the mood for it and stopped. Really glad to hear about the positive impressions though
Conversation with James Krivchenia talking a bit about the record. He mentions he'll be recording the next album in Greece in July https://www.talkhouse.com/westerman-talks-with-james-krivchenia-big-thief-on-the-talkhouse-podcast/
saw this dude last night, awesome show. and twain who opened and sang harmonies on about half the set is quite literally the best
Love Twain. I was about to say he doesn’t get any recognition but I just noticed you made a thread for him a few months ago!
Have been re-spinning Your Hero Is Not Dead and I think it's truly underrated at this point. "Paper Dogs" is one of those songs that just sneaks up on you late at night.
This one didn’t grab me immediately and I kinda forgot to ever run it back. Gonna challenge myself to put this on instead next time I’m craving YHIND
Your Hero is Not Dead is definitely better beginning to end (and more accessible in general) but maybe not better than the best stuff on this
The new Orlando Weeks album (lead singer of the Maccabees for people who remember them… @Tim?) came out Friday. It is produced by Bullion and will definitely appeal to Westerman fans. Check out the first track, I love what it builds to. The whole thing is great.
lol wow, I haven’t thought about the Maccabees in literally years. I’ll have to revisit that one album I remember digging a lot later, and also give his new thing a listen.
I don’t think I did and honestly can’t remember who it was that did. Was that David, “the Personist”? I certainly did get pretty into one of their albums and post a lot at the time with people who were big fans.
It may have been Kyle Huntington? I remember he was all about them back in the AP.net days and definitely had a Maccabees avatar. Posted as Wall Of Arms on Chorus for a while
New record today. He remains like 5% too adventurous for a direct hit on my tastes but once again there’s more good than not and the good is awesome. https://open.spotify.com/album/6rCXeiJxQtdtPx2suwjkcI?si=QNiQgQZ7Tva0v6nsitKOxQ
