I respect and understand what it's trying to get across with that, but I'll be surprised if by Week 2 that's still the case.

 

I was thinking that, too. Especially if it’s as large of a chunk of the movie as they’re saying. I think it’ll be even more like week 1.

I mean what is the point of the Spanish not being subtitled?

 

I think it does a few things. It makes the film feel like a Puerto Rican story as much as it does an English-speaking story; subtitling the Spanish but not the English would point to the movie’s intended audience being basically for one side of that and not the other. But it also gives the English speakers in the audience a chance to feel like “outsiders” in a foreign culture in the same way that the Puerto Ricans do in the movie

(granted, I haven’t seen the movie so idk how effective it is, but I understand the decision on the surface)

 

One of the points of the story is that we are all the same when you move beyond race, so making it so that you literally cannot understand one side of the conflict is a strange move.

 

Getting really good reviews. Might see it in the theater, sounds like that type of movie.

I was just able to snag two for Boston. Never done one of these. How early do folks usually show up for these?

 

i’d suggest getting there at least 90 minutes beforehand. that pass doesn’t guarantee you admission, as these screenings are overbooked by design to ensure a packed house

Yeah I mean I think Bridge is his best of the last like 10+ years for sure.

 

just rewatched the original film, can’t wait to see this on Sunday

 

This was really good. Personally felt it was a smidge too long, but just a minor complaint. Ready to watch it again already.

 

really strong adaptation here. everyone in the cast save for bitch-assed elgort is good to great. evergreen, but it's wild how you can see each bit of talent spielberg has in nearly every scene, even for his advanced age. then again, he's apparently been itching to make a musical for a long ass time (one of the opening scenes in temple of doom comes to mind) so obviously he came to play. can't see myself getting mad at this winning any awards not called best actor

 

Didn’t even realize until now that this year is the 60th anniversary of the original film

 

Yawn.
