Maybe I need to track down a couple interviews to see what you mean. To me, he just seems like a very particular artist, with very specific interests that he loves to lean into meticulously. He finds that minutia and dedication satisfying, and I respect that. I wouldn’t want every filmmaker to be like that, lol, but I’m happy to have one who is. I’d feel different if I started hearing stories from cast and crew about him being hard to deal with (not in a “this is challenging” way, but in a “he’s an asshole” way). But, he seems to repeat collaborators, so that doesn’t seem to be the case.
I remember that video of him trying to direct the kid on the set of the witch and he was kind of an ass.
The dialogue/dialect has not bothered me in any of his previous films and I doubt it will here. I think he is very genuinely into the subject matter he explores (pretty sure he legitimately studies the occult and shit) and while that can seem like a little much, I also don't think it's for show or anything. (He and his team have also offered to do things for our little regional horror fest, so I think in general he seems like someone who is kind with his time and cares about the arts, even if his work falls into a very specific historical niche.)
I don't really care if he's a prick. But I'd like to see him try something different. I like everything he's done and I'm interested in this but can't say I'm too excited
Northman is the only one that's been less than great for me (still good) and Nosferatu is potentially my favorite, plus I'm a werewolf guy when it comes to classic monsters, so I'm definitely excited
no one said they "cared." i brought it up and said i have liked all of his movies. i do. it isn't that serious lol
I kinda feel the opposite on his last two films really liked The Northman and liked Nosferatu but didn't love it
I love all of his films so I'm very excited for this one. Nosferatu was so much better than I expected it to be so I won't doubt him again.
I need to watch Nosferatu again, but would be tempted to say: Nosferatu The Witch The Lighthouse The Northman
I like his films because for the production design. The amount of detail that him and his team put in is incredible. Even if I think the film itself is a little underwhelming coughnosferatucough I appreciate the authenticity his team brings to the time period the films are set
