This needs to be done the correct way. Musk can ef up big time. Let’s just wait and see. (Also I hate Musk by the way. )

  2. No advertisers are buying more Twitter ads cause politicians use the platform. :crylaugh:

And conservatives do not have a point about censorship, at all!, they’re actually completely wrong and Twitter have been the foremost actual first amendment proponents in tech.

We are through the looking glass now.

The second that someone builds the Defector/Chorus-level of a Twitter-like platform, even if it costs money, I’ll be there.

It’s a hell scape on its best day, but I can’t quit it because a lot of comedians I love use it. And it’s genuinely fun to have during the shared experiences of humanity. But I hate it for news and politics because those get me depressed on a scale where I would rather just log off than read a single tweet, and those things are what drive the majority of content and engagement now. It’s awful.

The world would be infinitely better if Twitter had never existed, and will likely be better when it is gone - if it’s not all burned to the ground first.

Twitter openly said they wrong wrong to silence the hunter biden story…if that’s not admitting to suppression of free speech and news I don’t know what is…?

You are delusional. When politicians use it, the news will air those tweets. And when the news airs those tweets, people will go to those tweets. And when people go to the tweets, there will be more eyes on those tweets. And when there are more eyes on the tweets then that’s more eyes on a potential ad. And the more eyes there can be on an ad means more advertisers will pay for that ad to be where those eyes are.

And about the whole free speech thing? Yikes. The Biden laptop is only one part of the story. But basically when the FBI was investigating it, Twitter suppressed the story saying it was fake even though it was being investigated. I guess Twitter knows more than the FBI

We are in a hyper political society. And the amount of people who spew trash at politicians who tweet is astronomical. It’s like when you posted that article about Travis getting COVID. People including me flocked to it because they and myself got triggered. We are automatically drawn toward politics as a society. And as an advertiser, that’s where I would put my ads since that’s where everyone is going.

Now I think it would be stupid to buy Facebook. That place is dead. But Twitter? It’s here to stay for awhile.

I’ve gotten the impression that Jason is extremely left, not the average democrat and or republicanso literally only sees things the lefts way and everything else is wrong no if’s ands or buts. That’s fine I respect his beliefs just wish people like that didn’t act is if there views are fact and everyone else is evil and wrong if you aren’t on board with said opinion and view

I mean look who is mad. Far far left people only. The rest of the country woke up and went to work. But not Sarah bareilles things are to rough now that Twitter can’t censor opinions she doesn’t like!!

While this is highly commendable in itself, he also said he wouldn't do a thing to block Russian propaganda in Ukraine because he's (what he calls) a "free speech absolutist".

You are describing exactly what the model has been to this point so far. Companies only want to tolerate so much hate speech (see Kanye) and misinformation (see some of Elon's first tweets as owner promoting conspiracies) before they don't want their brand associated with supporting it.

It's worth reminding people that "freedom of speech" means nothing in the context of a private company because US law states that in terms of the First Amendment it only applies to the government, but that doesn't extend past our borders. Elon's problem is that he makes this "freedom of speech/town square" argument but when pressed about what happens when another country that doesnt have our freedoms pushes back, he falls apart and has no answer because he hasn't ever shown that he's thought it through critically.

Here's an example: when he went to get financing for this purchase, the largest investor is the Saudi Royal family. What's he going to do if they begin getting pissy about khashoggi posts now that they have leverage? Is he going to support Free Speech or cave to his largest investor? Similar example can be made about posts negative of the Chinese govt, especially over topics like Taiwan, as they own a large stake in Tesla and manufacture tons of the vehicles there. These are pretty important policy points he hasn't been able to answer when asked.

It's being reported that Twitter engineers have been instructed to build a system to charge users $20/month for blue check verification (they were also told to get this done by Nov 7 or get fired).

    Motel. Money. Murder. Madness.

A whole lot of ~big brains~ in here thinking that this is about being upset someone is posting ~opinions you don’t like~.

Naw, homie. People are upset that this can (and probably will) now become a safe haven for hate speech, misinformation (see Elon’s Pelosi tweet), and once he allows Trump to have his account back - even more vitriolic WE GOTTA TAKE THIS COUNTRY BACK rhetoric COMBINED with misinformation, that can fuel more weirdos to do MORE stupid awful shit.

If Elon Musk is the ~absolutist~ he claims to be, I’d be a bit shy of throwing ad dollars into this dumpster fire platform. But, he’s just playing fuckin’ 9D chess, totally. :eyebrow:

No one buys an ad because a tweet is on the news. This is literally not how it works at all.

  16. This is probably why you’re not in charge of any ad budget. It’s literally the opposite of what brands want their content next to.

Let's get these people moving faster!

The idea that all attention is good attention doesn't carry over to deep pocketed companies looking to advertise.

And for those thinking only left-leaning people are unhappy right now, that may be true, for now, but you can be sure users irrespective of political leanings will be unhappy if they're inundated with spam and other annoying content should Twitter lay off a big percentage of the people who moderate all the junk that makes user experience awful. It takes a village to try and keep a network as big as that secure and stable, and that's before they even begin to moderate for hate speech.

I mean, if someone believes you should just be able to spew whatever disinfo and/or slurs and racism that you want to in any forum you want to, it definitely makes you wrong. Evil probably depends on what else is behind those beliefs, I.e. are you a neo-fascist turd who wants to be able to say n words and jew slurs and etc and be a huge asshole without any consequences whatsoever, because if so you might be (Read: are) evil. If you're just an idiot who buys some simplistic definition of "Free speech" being be able to say whatever you want whenever you want without any social consequences whatsoever, then you're probably just wrong.

Daisy-chaining random unproven statements together because they sound right to the uncritical ear wasn't a good way to justify trickle-down economics 40 years ago and it isn't a good way to justify whatever you're trying to suggest now.

I love the idea that when people see a tweet on the news they go to fact check it and see it online, and don't just assume it's there, that's why we're in this situation now, we just have too many fact checkers watching the news and checking their sources obviously

It's also worth pointing out that some of the stuff the NY Post was reporting on was literally fake news. Even the dude that gave the laptop to Rudy said pictures of the supposed files that were on the computer were definitely not on there before he gave the laptop to Rudy, and it has been published more than a few times now that most (all?) of the actually politically incriminating stuff related to Hunter and Joe Biden was clearly added to the computer months/years after Hunter Biden had it in his possession. The "Real" stuff that was actually put there by Hunter Biden was mostly failson/drug user shit.
