My personal ranking for Weezer albums is constantly changing, so I'm fine with doing this monthly haha

I don’t see the controversy. It’s certainly the best ‘10s Weezer album. I wouldn’t call it anywhere near the first few, nor a “great” album in general. It’s okay.

It’s the best non-90’s Weezer album. It’s not in the same tier as those records imo but it’s enjoyable from front to back

 

I think EWBAITE is a far better album than White, but both are certainly better than Black & PD

 

I like EWBAITE, but it didn’t age that well for me. There aren’t any stinkers, but there aren’t any songs I really really like either

 

I guess it's just personal preference at this point. White seems like the safer album whereas EWBAITE takes risks and they pay off for the most part. Ain't Got Nobody, Eulogy, The British, Da Vinci, Go Away, Cleopatra, Foolish Father and the Trilogy are all pretty badass.

 

the arrangements on white are way more dynamic and interesting than the ones on everything will be alright, and i'm a fan of the latter. none of rivers' impersonal singing a la "lonely girl" either, he really sings the hell out of every song on white. also features no song as bad as "back to the shack"

 

This is how I used to feel too, but even if I respected it more at one point, I've just coming around to enjoying White a little bit more.

However, Maladroit is far and away the best post-90s Weezer album.

 

Writing off an album bc it has a single song worse than songs on other albums is weird to me. I feel like people write off Hurley because of Where’s My Sex

Smart Girls is pretty easily worse than Sex for me. Sex at least has that one cool musical part

Would you like me to run through the amount of people who trash Hurley and only mention Where's My Sex?

 

It has some cool moments, but most of it sounds so forced to me. White sounds like a natural evolution, whereas EWBAITE sounds like they were trying too hard to please their early fans (also evident in the lyrics)

I mean your post referencing White not having a song as bad as Back to the Shack was certainly the impetus for me writing my post.

 

ok cool, i'll clarify again that i really like everything will be alright but that song always bums me out at the start

 

Don't worry, I think everything on Hurley is trash except for Ruling Me.
