I won’t be baited into talking about lyrics in a weezer thread. You cannot make me do it. guitars are cool, vocals sound great from both of them, and the production is very good for the first time on a weezer song since the white album. I am pleased.
I definitely did a double take when I saw the post that said this was their 20th album and yeah I guess when we count SZNZ as 4 albums the math really does math.
What’s strange is I initially loved Hurley when it first came out then after time I just found it sounded kinda lifeless production/ mix wise. I wonder what will happen if I give it a listen for the first time in a few years. I always really liked Ruling Me, and Unspoken

There are so many Weezer albums that I’m ok never thinking about, so “White, Maladroit, Blue, Green, Pinkerton, and EWBAITE rip” is all I need to say/hear when it comes to rankings.
Hurley has about the same number of songs I revisit as the three albums before it but you could feel them at least getting back on track. Really only two songs I classified as bad on it

EWBA has never done it for me. I overcompensate for the ridiculous hate that Hurley gets, but in reality the only post-Maladroit album that I will defend is White. The rest could vanish

This sounds a lot like EWBAITE to me. Which isn’t a bad thing. “Shine Again” honestly sounds likes the most effortless Weezer has sounded since “LA Girlz” though. promising start, I’m seated.
They gotta do a 2nd installment of that sketch where the host and Dismukes argue over the black album and the SZNZ EPs and then Chloe does a really bad Rivers impression and Veronika walks in as a waiter and says “yowerrivers shactually wron wrechraaw gon rono the real riverschomo!” then Rivers and Brian walk out and everybody claps.
First 4 tracks of Hurley and Run Away are good Weezer songs. Some of their best post-Maladroit, and better than anything on any future album that isn’t White.
