I’d throw in Haunt You Every Day but I haven’t played it recently enough to remember if it’s actually good

 

I don't think that one is good at all, very dull and unexciting to me

 

Beverly Hills is my second favorite song on Make Believe. It is a distressingly bad record.

This album is a mix of Green, Maladroit, ETWBAITE, and the quirkiness of Hurley. I’m liking it a lot. Perfect length too.

Also, We Are All On Drugs is an underrated song from Make Believe.

I'm not going to actually read the review but I gasped at their score lol

 

look I'll go to bat for a lot of MB but yeah drugs is absolute dogshit. same with my best friend (but not in fact freak me out, which rules)

 

While I know it's not good, My Best Friend is maybe the third song I'd listen to on purpose if I wanted to teach me kids about friendship

 

This Is Such a Pity is literally one of my all time favorite Weezer songs

 

i remember reading the review the day it dropped when I was in high school lol.

 

While we’re at it I really hate Perfect Situation. I know it’s not that bad of a song, but it’s so intrinsically tied to the disappointment of MB to me I’ll just never fully come around on it. Hate it for the immediate confirmation that BvH wouldn’t be the only song short of a true return to form. And the stupidly simplistic lyrics. And making the chorus melody worse and re-recording it because live crowds were singing it wrong.

16 year old me would have struggled with Van Weezer had it come out in 2005, too, but squinting through my very high current level of Weezer positivity to try to be objective I still honestly think it’s like 10 times the album Make Believe is.

 

Couldn’t make it all the way through this album lol

 

Truly don’t think I’ve ever seen an anti Perfect Situation take before

 

Did you just criticize Weezer for their overly simplistic lyrics?

I’ve already listened to this album more times than OK Human, which is a cool album and I’d probably rank it in the middle, but I definitely gotta be in a mood for it.

 

There are plenty of good to great lyrics on the first two records though

I am holding off on ranking the catalog for a few more days yet , but pretty sure Van Weezer is a few notches above Make Believe.

 

Just listened to Make Believe. Not as bad as I remember.

 

It’s definitely been more than a minute since I’ve heard the whole thing. Which is why trying to rank a 15ish album catalog is such a challenge. There’s so much recency bias all around.

 

The version of perfect situation that is currently out there is way worse than the original version, but it’s still the best song on Make Believe in that it is the only song on Make Believe that isn’t bad
