seriously what is going on here lol even the most on the nose lyrics on OK Human don't touch some of the misses on this thing, and that's coming from someone who's really enjoying it
I enjoy 1 More Hit a lot more than I was expecting based on some reactions. Lyrically the "please daddy" line is kinda cringey, but melody wise its great. And I love that bridge and key change. Shelia is probably my favorite off this.
One of the best songs on OKH is a paid commercial it also has playing my piano Not even saying it's not a better album than this haha but among the many semi-weezer fans of my friends I imagine the vast majority of them being more likely to make it through this than OKH
"She Needs Me" is buns but that "All of the Good Ones" chorus is really growing on me. Shocked at how good this truned considering how corny/pop some of its moments are
Just my dumb opinion, but I think because of the lyrics Rivers insists on writing, I prefer them set to this kind of over the top music than the almost faux-intimacy of something like OK Human. I like that album but it’s weak points are far more distracting to me.
ok human may be the setting in which rivers' dumb lyrics are the most digestible for me, weirdly. reminds me of the beach boys love you in spirit
fair enough. I’m still trying to formulate my opinion because what I said is probably contradicted by my thought that precious metal girl is their best song in a very long time lol
I mean, the dumb lyrics on OK Human ("Grapes of Wrath," "Screens") at least feel offset by the beauty and authenticity of songs like "Numbers" and "Bird With a Broken Wing," so idk, I feel like the lyrics here are purposely over the top to match the music while OK Human lyrics feel much more genuine, not that there's anything wrong with either approach imo edit: tl;dr, I agree with @wisdomfordebris that the lyrics here being over the top work because of the music, but I disagree that there's anything faux-intimate about OK Human, that record feels really authentic to me.
I always compare it to "Busy Doin Nothin" but this is a good take too and yeah I'll happily take the odd Rivers clunker that even Brandon Flowers would blush to write if its part of an album that feels more than the sum of its parts. like I'll take a clumsy album that kinda has something to say over an album written via fucking spreadsheet any day
This is pretty good! A couple clunkers in the back half but generally a fun album. Laughed out loud at the beginning of Blue Dream.
Can't figure out how to fully formulate this opinion but Hero reminds me of Mexican Fender in that in the genre of shameless old man Rivers swings for the radio fences they're a cut above most others imo.
The rest of Blue Dream is so good that it doesn't matter how silly it is that they threw Crazy Train in it Def gonna go buy this today, perfect day to blast it. I don't dislike a song on here, they nailed what they were going for
Van Weezer rules and my hype has been satisfied! Major Green vibes of just crank up the volume and guitars, let's goooo
