Wow, this is only a week away. the longest album rollout in history has almost reached its conclusion.
The Offspring has them beat by a handful of years. They released Coming For You in 2015 and just released the album two weeks ago.
Starting a new listen-through of the discography. Yes, Pinkerton is still a masterpiece the 101st time you hear it
Kudos if you even made it all the way through. I’m pretty sure I listened to the title track to see what all the fuss was about , and after that I just had to stop.
Breeders rule Classic Pixies had an all-time discog but their reunion has been absolute steaming dogshit Weezer rule Thanks for your time
Yeah I mean Pixies' original run almost inarguably beats out Weezer's, but I don't look forward to their music the way I still look forward to new Weezer. And yes, the Breeders fuck.
doolittle is better than pinkerton and blue, surfer rosa is just below those two, bossa nova and trompe le monde are under maladroit and green and the post-reunion albums are, like, raditude-black-pacific daydream level
I think it's close enough to be matter of personal preference but yeah I stand by saying Weezer was overall better. Pixies did it first and have the effortless cool factor Weezer could (deliberately?) never compete with. But I think good Weezer took the formula and built on it. Rivers was a stronger lyricist at his peak imo and there isn't much in Pixies' discog that swings for the fences and connects the way Pinkerton does. Pixies take it on energy and Joey Santiago. Weezer takes it on songwriting (and sound - not that it's necessarily a fair differentiator, mid 90s generally smoke 88-92 production). (And yes I know the greatest sounding album of all time came out in 1991.) I've been revisiting these albums a lot lately and I think Surfer Rosa, all time classic and on my own favorite albums of all time list, is slightly overrated. Bossanova is way underrated. Easily better than any 2000s Weezer and weight of impact aside I'd put it close to SR.
