How much do they cost lol? I've historically struggled a bit to connect with his odds and ends and I'm hesitant to pay for them even if there are some diamonds in the rough
Figured it out. You have to enter the url riverscuomo.com/demos it’s $9. It’s crazy what a better album EWBAITE could’ve been.
I'm going through everything REALLLLYY slowly, am only in the 1990 stuff, so I am still pre-weezer haha
The weezer subreddit thread on this batch of songs is worth skimming through. People talking about what parts of some songs ended up elsewhere, etc Rivers just dropped Alone IV: The EWBAITE Years on his personal website : weezer
Guys this fucking insane hahaha I love rivers so much like the website is so bad but he just made it himself so of course it is ? and 3 hours of demos my god
I admire Rivers so much, giving us this even after people leaked 500 demos from him is amazing. and reading the liner notes for Ecce Homo that come with the download, it's clear he's just absolutely bursting with brilliant ideas but they don't make it onto his albums in the right ways enough also "Ballad of the Briny" is a goddamn BOP
Quick side note that is a step aside from the Alone IV demos. I am currently listening to the batch of songs called Yeastmaster, from Rivers pre-Weezer. It's very demo-y lofi stuff, but there's some really fun tracks in here. You get a lot of his more metal tendencies, paired with his younger voice, it's endearing. A lot of crap to sift through but there's at least 5 or so gems that give a cool look into his pre-Weezer stuff
Bought and downloaded it, his organization is so funny. A folder called Alone IV with nothing in it, 144 loosies that I guess make up "Alone IV" all together, but half of them are tagged as Ecce Homo and the rest simply as EWBAITE. And then there's the crazy word doc for Ecce Homo that is going to take a lot to digest haha
"Bless the Whole Wide World" legit could have been a hit single for them and instead it's some throwaway only diehards will ever hear. incredible
So out of these, what are we considering to be Ecce Homo? From the tagging it looks like... 1. The Waste Land 4. Gravity 4. The British Are Coming 4. The Tower of Babel 6. Empty Inside 6. The Whole World 7. Anonymous 8. Meet Up With Our Maker 8. The Rules Of Life 9. Cleopatra ...which, yes, makes no sense.
This version was created before Rivers released anything though, so maybe it's just a guess at this point?
the chorus on "Only a Cockroach" is so much better than the one they used for "Beginning of the End" damn
everyone's (rightly) losing their minds over "Rules of Life" but man "Tower of Babel" could be even better?
