Jake Sinclair, producer, had a huge hand in it. Basically a huge fan of Blue and Pink. Rivers obviously did not bring him back for Pacific Daydream lol.
And as someone who did not at all like PD or Black, I am SO happy about that. Its very clear when Rivers wants to put out stuff for early Weezer fans and when he just wants to follow whatever crazy phase he’s in.
Sinclair also has a co-write on "Mexican Fender" which explains why, much like White, it has a fucking stupid good bridge
They need to just work with Jake Sinclair for every release going forward. He's a Weezer fan, first and foremost, and he was actually willing and able to rein Rivers in and get him to make great songs in a way that really only Ric Ocasek (RIP) had been able to do previously.
Yeah I feel like if they don’t have someone there to tell Rivers “No.” then we get his worst impulses.
Eh, I'm probably in the minority but I think I'm more interested in getting whatever weird concept Rivers has in mind with varying execution than a bunch of solid Blue/Pink/Green rehashes. It's part of the reason I'm never bored with a new Weezer release, even if it's not m favorite
I don't think EWBAITE or White are rehashes of Blue or Pinkerton, though. They incorporate elements of the band's original sound, but they are unquestionably progressions of that sound. As much as I enjoy a bunch of the songs from PD and Black, I'd much rather have more of what we got on EWBAITE and White.
not announced yet in any official fan-facing way, but it seems like retailers have been given a new date
Obviously this forum loves it, but I feel like White Album doesn't get its due. It's basically a perfect record, and along with WORRY. and Goodness comprises three different records that could be my #1 for 2016 on any given day.
This is true. With the exception of The Black Album, I at least engage with every Weezer record, even if it is a negative engagement. It's been over a year of The Black Album now and it might be their most forgettable record outside of a few songs.
it was one of my favourite albums of the decade lol, maybe it's not art but nothing else scratched that itch of brilliant pop songs slowly getting darker like White did. the last three songs still give me chills
