You guys need to make a greatest hits playlist that has the like...15 best post-Maladroit songs for people like me who’ve listened to each album once or twice when they first came out and then never touched them again because they weren’t “as good as the blue album.” Ha. But for real. I’d be interested in that. Haha.
“The Angel and the One” off Red has a legitimate claim as the best Weezer song. It’s the exact reason everyone still gets up for every Weezer record. Because they are still capable of absolute greatness. Also listen to White, nothing as transcendent as “Angel” but their best late career record from front to back (LA Girlz, my personal favorite).
Here’s my ten favorite I think. No order, you will get pretty different answers on this I’m sure. Not too fond of Hurley, Ratitude and Make Believe at all so I have nothing to say about them... The Angel and the One Miss Sweeney LA Girlz (Girl We Got A) Good Thing Endless Bummer QB Blitz Weekend Woman Ain’t Got Nobody Go Away The Futurescope Trilogy
Thank God For Girls Beach Boys Miss Sweeney High as a Kite Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori Haunt You Every Day Happy Hour The British Are Coming LA Girlz Perfect Situation Run Away Blowin' My Stack This is Such a Pity Futurescape Trilogy The Angel And The One
But neither of you included “Put Me Back Together” which is one of the very few newer weezer songs I listen to on the regz. Haha.
Greatest Man Angel Sweeney Thank God for Girls Wind in Our Sails Girl we got a good thing Do you wanna get high LA Girlz genuinely can’t think of anymore I would recommend.
I didn't know people liked Thank God For Girls, it's literally the only tune on The White Album I don't like
Challenge Accepted: 1.) Perfect Situation 2.) The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived 3.) Angel and the One 4.) If You're Wondering If I Want You To 5.) Ruling Me 6.) Eulogy of a Rock Band 7.) Lonely Girl 8.) Go Away 9.) Cleopatra 10.) California Kids 11.) Wind in Our Sail 12.) Thank God For Girls 13.) LA Girlz 14.) Beach Boys 15.) High As a Kite
If I had to do a top 15 post-Maladroit, it would be all EWBAITE and White lol. I'd squeeze King and High As A Kite on there. But both those albums are worth full listens and as bad as MB - Hurley is, each album has like at least two legit great songs
Is there another legacy band whose later career has as much variety of opinion as weezer? There’s so many songs folks love and im either like “wtf that song sucks” or “wtf i cant even remember that song”.
Do You Wanna Get High, The British are Coming and Eulogy for a Rock Band would definitely be in my top 15. Good tunes. Probably Sweet Mary and Perfect Situation to round it out. Maybe High as a Kite. The good ones really are good.
I can’t speak to FOB but I feel you on Green Day. But even with them, anecdotally speaking it doesn’t seem like folks stan shit like “Little Boy Named Train”, “Ashley”, “Younbloods” etc. People either dig the later years or don’t. And for for people who do like it, there’s a core of newer songs folks all tend to like; “Stay The Night”, “Stray Heart”, “Bang Bang”, “Graffitia” etc* It seems like w Weezer there’s an extremity of attitudes about so many songs; one person thinks “Do You Wanna Get High” is top tier and another person totally hates it etc On the other hand, this may be completely nonsense *In thinking about this it just hit me that “Meet Me On The Roof” sounds an awful lot like nu weez.
