Honestly would love to see a green/white/pinkerton/maladroit tour. Have seen blue album enough. shit even throw in make believe or pacific daydream
Producer Jake ultimately choosing work/life balance instead of burning himself out forcing Rivers to make good Weezer music is great for him but sad for us.
"Death and Destruction" is the one off Maladroit. Def top three record from them, even though River was very insane and villainous during its production lol
I saw them in 2005 and they played Fall Together with Scott on vocals and it was awesome. I remember he did a little fist pump afterwards like he was saying to himself “nailed it.”
"Cheese smells so good on a burnt piece of lamb" is a line that has weirdly stuck in my head over the years. I always thought it was funny that they then had a song called Burndt Jamb. Man, what's the deal with that?
You can hear the first single from Jessica Lea Mayfield and Dolour’s cover of the Pinkerton album starting 1/28 (or now if you take a VPN trip to Australia). https://youtu.be/YFHF_xSbOKw I love Jessica Lea Mayfield’s music but the music here isn’t working for me. I was hoping for something that was grungier or dreamier like her own music. Her Elliott Smith covers album with Seth Avett was pretty cool.
Just wish they picked a different tracklist for maladroit. High Up Above, We Go Together, How Long, Broken Arrows, Porcupine…they left so much of the best shit off.
it sounds amazing Weezer founding member and original bassist, Matt Sharp, while working on a series of “lost-albums” from the cutting room floor of his creative life, stumbled upon a curious multi-track reel of analog tape. This mysterious reel found at the bottom of a treasure chest of other master recordings just happened to contain Weezer's very first studio sessions. These were the very same recordings that were responsible for earning the band a record contract for their iconic debut Blue album. These newly discovered sessions feature raw, vividly emotional and ecstatic versions of the band's timeless hit songs “Say It Ain’t So” and “Undone (The Sweater Song)”. Sharp and legendary music producer Joe Chicarrelli took these recordings to Los Angeles’ famed East/West Studios, where the Beach Boys created Pet Sounds and Sinatra recorded My Way, to take a deeper look into this mythic reel of 1-inch Ampex tape. What the two men quickly discovered was the original lineup (with guitarist Jason Cropper) in an infectious, explosively joyful, feral form. Making the decision to honor the original intention of the music and the traditional technology of the era, the songs were remixed from top to bottom, from tape to vinyl, in a 100% analog process. With Sharp as producer and Chicarrelli on the mix, the result of these sessions makes up the entirety of the new Weezer album titled “1192” (named after the month and year it was originally recorded.) The illuminating spirit of the performances on 1192 are guaranteed to turn the world upside down for blue album fans everywhere. This album stands on its own as an essential entry into the band’s discography and is crucial to understanding the first chapter in Weezer's storied history. Tracklist Side One 01. For vinyl releases, I’m not a fan of multiple takes/versions of the same song. The R.E.M. Out of Time special edition and Pinkerton deluxe editions have a similar thing where the bonus tracks are repeated live/demo takes of the same songs, which I enjoy more as digital tracks I can browse and pick out individually instead of playing though back to back on a record.
Is this actually recently unearthed stuff or is it a remix of versions that have been kicking around forever?
Sounds amazing but it's kind of hard to commit without hearing them and I imagine this will be a hard get. Still kicking myself over not pulling the trigger on Blue 30th box set but the stunning sound on the Interscope 45 RPM is a good consolation prize.
Digging into this a little more, it seems to be a remixed version of The Real Demo, which has been out there for a while albeit without a clean rip of SWA, and then 5 alternate versions that have never(?) been circulated. Legit exciting stuff! now if only they'd do a standalone vinyl release of the kitchen tapes too
