It'll be interesting to see how the Pink album shapes up next year lol. Most of it is cowrites with a Swedish hit writer so we'll see. I need them to make an album so bad its actually good
Rivers is pretty active and transparent on his Discord server. There's this unhinged fan forum called AllThingsWeezer that compiles this kinda info lol very interesting place
Rivers with Swedish hit makers honestly just feels like black album. Black album feels like what I imagine people who don’t listen to or like rock music think an eclectic guitar/rocking record sounds like.
I got blue, Pinkerton, green, and maladroit on the same day from BMG music group and that was enough music to last me months
My first Weezer exposure was the Happy Days video on MTV and I was too young to understand the clear parody/VFX. I wasn’t entirely sure if Weezer were actually an old band and the song was old.
I remember seeing the "Beverly Hills" music video on MTV when I was in fifth grade, asking my brother to burn the CD for me, and him being like "Sure, but you should probably listen to these two first" lol. Shockingly, he gave me Maladroit and Green, not Blue and Pinkerton. I remember hearing "American Gigolo" for the first time and hardly believing it was the same band, lol
I checked out of Weezer after Blue (I was like 8 and busy enough with Green Day and Sugar Ray and Blink 182 to follow their subsequent albums) but I remember my friends’ reactions to Make Believe was the first time I took in and realized the phenomenon of Weezer fans actively hating some of their music.
Not me lol but perhaps I was the perfect age for their turn towards pop-rock. They'd already kind of done it with The Green Album, so hearing those albums all around the same time didn't feel like that much of a stylistic leap to me
All that bonus content in the box set but not including the b-sides/bonus tracks of that era is so stupid lol
