I like both albums but I have more fun listening to Van Weezer

 

I feel like I’ve already covered over and over again that there are no bad weezer albums no bad weezer songs they all slap

 

well sure hahaha it's designed as like thee fun album, it just isn't great. it also isn't bad. saying OKH is better isn't saying it's, like, raditude lol

 

Van Weezer is fun but the production is a bit plastic for me and the songwriting is gimmicky, which is fine, I suppose OK Human is too, but a lot of the songs on OK Human are genuinely great. It's style vs. substance imo.

And for what it's worth, I do like Van Weezer.

Van Weezer is what I want 2023 Weezer to sound like.

 

Admittedly this is a hatery take on an album I do like kind of a lot, but I feel like style over substance is a questionable point to use to praise an album that gets a not insignificant portion of its cred from being the orchestra album.

VW does sound a little plastic. Could use another good song or two in place of Blue Dream. But with either of those improvements I feel like it’d basically be white 2

 

Aloo Gobi and Here Comes the Rain are def better than anything on Van Weezer

OKH is the epitome of an album that sounds like an amazing concept, but in practice feels half assed, most songs don't even feel finished

 

I conceded that OKH could be seen as gimmicky, but again, the songs feel like some of the most genuine they've written in years as opposed to...Van Halen cosplay, lol. Which again, is fun, but if you compare the lyrics to "Bird With a Broken Wing" to "I Need Some of That," there's no question as to which song has more meaning.

And for VW to be White 2, they'd need to drop "Hero." Song stinks

OK Human was a bit inspired in that Rivers tried to be good and not use completely absurd lyrics but the music itself is just not for me. I know objectively it’s better than Van Weezer but I’d rather listen to VW, if I had to listen to one. Aloo Gobi is an all-time Weezer track though.

 

Van Weezer is good only for finally giving us Thrown It All Away. I wish they would put it on streaming.

 

SZNZ had bonus tracks on each of the vinyl records, right? Did anyone ever rip them?

 

Van Weezer is fun, listened to it a ton the summer it came out. OK Human sounds good but I rarely return to it

 

File it in the da Vinci school of incredible chorus, horrible verses, but probably a good enough chorus to carry the whole song

 

I like aloo gobi because I live in Montana and he says Montana oh oh oh

 

the Miss Sweeny school, the most extreme version of "incredible chorus, horrible verse, people think it's amazing"

 

I like hero btw. It’s like Weezer doing a mid tier foo fighters song, completely adequate imo
