sincerely would've loved to see y'all react to Ecce Homo if they ever finished it. some absolutely insane lyrics about death on that thing lmao
I really like Winter a lot, echoing the love for Dark Enough especially But why the fuck was Sheraton Commander not the opener on this, and Tastes Like Pain the opener for Autumn? I actually just listened to all four EPs back to back as one big album and it flows really well if you place those songs there, they're good transitions
Have they announced whether there’ll be a box set release for this? Or do they all need to be purchased individually
I have to give it some time before ranking. I think the quality is actually pretty high across the board, only two or three total stinkers imo.
I think Autumn is great and sits clearly above the rest. Winter and Spring are both very good, and Summer is overall pretty bad.
I will say that despite it being pretty easily my least favorite, Spring is the only one that really "feels" like the season it's supposed to represent. The rest sounds pretty much like standard Weezer, albeit different facets of their sound
Man, rivers opening the vaults was a blessing and a curse. Almost everytime he recycles s melody now, I prefer it’s original song and would absolutely preferred he just fleshed out the originals and not frankensteined it into other songs.
This whole project was a huge bust to me...there is not one song on any of these (nor probably most of their discography as a whole) that could not be interchanged for these "seasonal" songs
Yeah I’m glad it’s over. There are moments across the 4 I enjoy, but I had higher expectations for what ultimately ended up being a lot of last tier Weezer songs.
Wow, imo most of this is up there with OK Human and White. Much better than Van Weezer, which I did like. Nothing even close to the depths of Red or Raditude.
3/4 EPs are solid (despite not having a ton of lasting value) and imo the time signature stuff feels less Frankensteined, which I know it is, and more like a reference to Rivers' love of classical music when has been highlighted in everything from Pinkerton to EWBAITE
Rivers said they were making the EPs in real time, so after each one was released, they were working on the next one and finishing it. And each Weezer record tends to be a reaction to the one previously. I wonder if that's why Spring had a definite spring vibe and the rest were mostly Weezer experimenting or doing the Weezer thing. Chunky guitar riffs and solos.
Trying to think of the songs from this project that are actually memorable and have staying power. "Blue Like Jazz," "Get Off on the Pain," and "I Want a Dog"... pretty sparse.
Now that I’ve had some more time with Winter I’d say this is my top 10 of SZNZ 1. Get Off On The Pain 2. Tastes Like Pain 3. Thank You And Good Night 4. Blue Like Jazz 5. Iambic Pentameter 6. Basketball 7. Lawn Chair 8. Dark Enough To See The Stars 9. The Opposite Of Me 10. Can’t Dance, Don’t Ask Me No songs from Spring but Opening Night would be #11
Top 10: 1. A Little Bit of Love 2. Sound of Drums 3. Records 4. Blue Like Jazz 5. The Opposite of Me 6. What's the Good of Being Good 7. Can't Dance, Don't Ask Me 8. What Happens After You? 9. Francesca 10. Dark Enough to See the Stars
This is really close to mine I think (including justice for Records which I still don’t understand why everyone hates)
