Think I’m in the “I don’t hate most of this” camp. About equal with Summer for me, with Spring being the only one that I truly hate. Tastes Like Pain is pretty awful though lmao
It’s funny how everyone’s opinions are so different. For me this is the type of album I always wished they’d make. Definitely In the top of my rankings somewhere
My first impression is mostly that Rivers and I have a very different idea of what fall sounds like lol
The build up during the closer makes me feel things I haven’t felt in a long time from a piece of music
Overall, I love this EP after 2 listens. It feels likes the best of everything they've been doing over the last 20 years in one concise 7-song, 24-minute EP. Like I love how in "Can't Dance" they take the riff that in the past would have been the basis for the whole song and just use it for the bridge. "Get Off On the Pain" has some of those darker Maladroit vibes meets the metal influence on Van Weezer, "Francesca" is just flat out fantastic, and "Run, Raven, Run" is amazing, both on its own and as a closer, and has some more Maladroit vibes.

I think every song on here has something I like. On first listen I didn't love Tastes Like Pain but honestly the ending is still pretty great

I like the first two songs a lot! The rest is a mixed bag. What Happens After You is truly horrendous. I also wish someone would reign Rivers in a bit. It’s cool when one song takes a wild swerve in tone/genre halfway through but when all the songs do it it’s just exhausting. Still…probably my favorite of the EPs so far?
Outside of the early 2010s Maroon 5 track I thought this was very enjoyable edit: lol I love that someone said that at the same time as me
The guitar lead-in has a very similar melody at one point to part of Wasteland from the Futurescope Trilogy, when it's ascending. Same key too. Futurescope is probably my favorite Weezer closer, and this shares some of that DNA. Love it
Other than maybe Records and A Little Bit of Love which of these songs feel like they’d actually survive beyond one tour cycle? I don’t know how any of these tracks can beat out their back catalogue to a spot on their evergreen live set list.
