They don’t sound programmed to me, but really heavily edited and leaning on samples bigtime. I dunno if things are still recorded this way, but I think the songs are constructed around River’s demo session, and Pat isn’t necessarily doing drums first. Butch Walker said in an interview about “Mexican Fender” that Pat’s also usually hearing the song for the first time when he goes in to do drums. Who knows if that’s true of Van Weezer and SZNZ, but it kinda sounds like it.
I think I mostly like this? haha A couple of these feel like by-the-numbers Weezer choruses with random Rivers weirdness grafted on in the verses/bridge. Like for example the synth from Can't Dance Don't Ask Me and the chord progression from Francesca are both Weezer staples
I think whenever I make all these into one playlist, Angels On Vacation and The Sound Of Drums will be the only spring tracks for me
God these EPs have been so disappointing. I thought Rivers said each EP was gonna be sonically different? These all sound the same to me.
But the thing is, how can you not have "Weezer Fatigue" with the rate that they release music...I appreciate the ambitions behind the SZNS, even though to me basically every song so far is interchangeable to each EP and has little to nothing to do with a certain season but d much prefer they take a break
I just listened to the Pacific Sunset demo and now I can totally see how that Run Raven Run bit would’ve worked on White
I definitely think all three have their own unique sound even if its not as strong as I thought it would be.
It's not Weezer unless half their audience thinks it's the worst thing they've ever done and the other half thinks it's miles better than the last thing they did.
Yeah. It feels like they’re stitching 3-4 song stems together and never fully developing any one of them. That said, Autumn has 2-3 tracks that are *almost* fully fleshed out with a little less of that manic underdeveloped hopping around.
