I've still not heard Black or Pacific Daydream but I'm yet to hear a song that's worse, or really even close to as bad.
Oh boy. Those albums have their defenders…but personally would take Beverly Hills over any song on them except maybe Mexican Fender or Beach Boys.
Black album is legit unlistenable. I think PD is more of an interesting misstep than legitimately awful, but I’m not a fan. This does get raised from time to time, but I’m never gonna agree with it. It’s night and day, and I say that as a modern Weezer semi defender.
As someone who only really got into the Blue album properly over the last year or so, it is definitely a lot better than almost everything they've done post-Pinkerton. I've been a big fan of Pinkerton for over 10 years so maybe I have some bias for that one but that is also clearly different from everything else they've ever put out which is why it was the only thing I bothered with for so long.
"Heart Songs" is so hilariously bad. I'm convinced that song had to be a joke. Just look at this shit: Back in 1991 I wasn't having any fun Til my roommate said "Come on!" And put a brand new record on It had a baby on it He was naked on it Then I heard the chords That broke the chains I had upon me
that's just regular old Weezer to me lol. I like the concept of singing about the songs he loves haha.
"Beverly Hills" rules. Also the love for White and the subsequent hate for Pacific Daydream is baffling to me. At least PD has nothing as atrocious and offensive as "Thank God For Girls".
Don't understand the hate for Pacific Daydream. Definitely not as good as White, but still solid late-period Weezer.
I was disappointed in it because 1) it was following up my favorite Weezer record in more than a decade, 2) Butch Walker executive produced; 3) "Mexican Fender" fucking rips. I don't think that album is bad, but it's a weird grab bag and isn't what I wanted it to be.
I disagree, but that's fine. It's just my take. Truthfully, I got into popular music late in life, so when I got into Weezer, I was starting college, and it was the Green Album, so I think this affords me a unique perspective.
Black Album and Pacific Daydream are at least interesting pop albums. They feel like something only Weezer could make. I’ll take that over the blandness of Hurley any day.
