yeah the drums on both this and Spring are the worst offender. sounds like he's hitting cardboard with a breadstick
Update: I’m now up to 23 times though. I’ll keep listening even though I don’t love it. Motherfuckers.
I thought more about it and I decided that I absolutely love this EP. *no longer bound by a strict minimum, well-paced listens requirement*
I have a lot of love for Weezer but the whole “theme albums” has been a massive miss for me outside of OK Human…like would anyone really notice if a track from Van Weezer was on Spring or Summer or if a track from Summer was on Spring or Van Weezer? Probably not Also anyone checking out tickets to the Broadway residency? Charging nearly 200 bucks for a ticket to see Weezer…is that a joke?
I've never felt especially strongly about this band one way or the other but they really went in on this for whatever reason
The only thing they're really wrong about is them trying to 'return to form' over and over again. They've really only done that twice, with Green and EWBAITE. The rest of their career has been spent trying to score huge hits and follow whatever Rivers whims of the moment are.
I'll never understand why Pitchfork reviews are always posted on this site, when everyone hates Pitchfork.
I don’t think “Summer” is good and even I think that review sucks. At the very least, Pitchfork is usually thoughtful with their more recent ho-hum reviews.
This broadway run still has plenty of tickets. I think the $300 price per seat is probably a deterrent also since both the Fall and Winter EP's haven't come out, not sure what the motivation is to buy tickets to those nights.
I'm into that review, the author goes pretty hard summer isn't good; spring is only marginally better and they've in general been wildly inconsistent (intentionally it seems) since white with all the experimentation/concept album schtick
I've always thought of Pitchfork less as a music site and more a flag for self-styled elites to wave to lord over the common man. Reviews are constructed for maximum condescension.
