i don’t think Jake produced this one. Maybe he’s involved in the big picture, but this one is credited to some jabroni called Robopop who co-write Hero and Suzy Shinn, who’s credited on Tidal for additional production and vocal production. The guitars def have that same tonal vibe as van weezer though I dunno if im really feelin the drum sound here, but the rest sounds great to me
I’ve only listened once but the vibe kinda reminds me of the wily side of Red and Everything Will Be Alright In The End comingling with Van Weezer
I enjoy long stretches of this while listening but I’m having trouble remembering the melodies and hooks once I step away from it. Still not sure if these are good Weezer songs or interesting Rivers c-sides.
Interesting to me that most people seem to dislike Records, because it’s the most immediately catchy one to me. The prechorus (?) to Blue Like Jazz and the chorus of The Opposite of Me have also been rattling around in my head all day. That key change into the chorus of The Opposite of Me is *chef’s kiss*
Still in awe that "Blue Like Jazz" might as well be a fucking Chiodos song lmao This is so good. Feels true to the band both musically and in how occasionally corny it is
I've listened to Summer like, 20 times through now, and there are bits and pieces of every song that I like, but as a whole, it seems like each song is kind of all over the place and it's not really clicking with me overall. I think Spring is a lot better.
Yeah I've listened a similar number of times but that's because this is already one of my favorite Weezer albums haha
It's a 20 minute album, haha. And I never said I hated it. There are many things that I like about the album, but overall, I think many of the songs get lost as they go on (some of the breakdowns are truly bad - Good of Being Good, Cuomoville). Also, as some of my favorite albums of all-time are albums I initially did not like at all for weeks or even months, I like to listen to albums when they come out over and over and over again to really make a judgement on it. I think it works a lot better than popping in on these forums at 12:45 a.m. on a Friday morning saying an album "sucks" or "this is not for me" Weezer is also one of my favorite bands of all-time, so I think they deserve that attention.
Summer fell off hard for me. At first, it was cool to hear such committed, uninterrupted metal play but, after some time, I think this stuff is cool for 1-2 songs on a good guitar-focused Weezer album but too much for me here. I like the approach better than Spring by a mile but I’m still waiting for the next fun EWBAITE/White catchy guitar rock album from the Mayor of Cuomoville.
My post hasn’t even a been out for a few hours and you’re saying it’s a “crazy thing to read.” I wrote it and I still can’t even begin to unpack it’s true meaning (might never even get there tbh).
would be a great EP if it started with Blue Like Jazz and had good production imo. something about both Spring and Summer feels like Weezer-lite to me though, it's like half the songs are just filling a quota recently fallen in love with "All This Love", though, so maybe there's hope!
After just under a whole week of listening to this (very long time) I can safely say... SZNZ: Summer still rocks.
