I say this with all the love in my heart, being a die hard weezer fan... but I think Rivers should just be producing other people's music at this point.
The guy put out his best album in over 20 years last year in my opinion. I'm happy he's still making music.
Rivers needs a lot of hand-holding and oversight to prevent his own worst impulses – he should NOT have free reign over someone else's music lol
If every decade or so they drop an album like White or EWBAITE and have some fun releases like Van Weezer in between I see no reason to complain
very flukey to come out the gate with two canonical, enduring records and follow them with a decades long career that includes several more good albums and at least some good songs on most releases
2000s weezer is a lot easier to enjoy for what it is in 2022 than it was in like 2010. Blue album and Pinkerton weren’t flukes, but everything after is a lot more enjoyable when you go in looking for fun rather than anything masterpiece level. And yea, most of their albums have a song or two where you get a little bit of both.
The extreme duality of Weezer exists nowhere else in music. The agony of the cringe and the euphoria of the excellence that can happen within a single record are unrivaled. I will never log off.
The mere fact that this conversation occurs every few pages in every Weezer thread is proof enough that Weezer have no peers lol - it probably doesn't even need to be said at this point!
every new Weezer release is so exciting because you truly never know if you're gonna get a Raditude or a White Album
The gigantic demo drop on his website imo proves he’s still got it, he is just his own biggest enemy.
Rivers is going to literally wear a crown of thorns this fall, and then stigmatas in winter. Here for it lol
Think the only songs I'll be coming back to from this are Wild at Heart and The Sound of Drums. The latter's chorus is a big-time earworm.
