I'm not convinced anyone really loves this band. I actually think Weezer fans are just fans of being fans, they could give fuck all about the band.
To be fair, this was during the era where every Weezer album was advertised as “Their best since ‘Pinkerton.’” They were chasing that dragon for awhile until the press/fans realized Rivers was just a happy dork and not that guy anymore.
My view of that song forever changed when my friend pointed out the cadence is basically the “When you want in the store and you feel something pour - diarrhea” song.
If you asked Rivers he would probably admit that it is a direct homage to that song and melody but that he did not intend for it to be humorous.
No one can make that decision for you. But you can decide for yourself to like a bad Weezer album and then look at everyone else like they’re the weird ones.
It's INSANE that there was an actual Weezer SNL sketch - with MATT DAMON! "I'm ride or die" "... for Weezer?" "Is this a thing people care about?" "No, no it isn't" "You know what band I always liked? Yellowcard!" "No offense, Tammy, but drink my blood"
I have a lot of time for Make Believe but they definitely wrote about 30 songs in those sessions that should have been on there instead of Drugs and My Best Friend lmao
Full song was played last night at an event in Santa Monica and there’s a bunch of cell phone recordings on social media - bizarre for them to not release it today on streaming lol https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8bgEtHu/
I like this song quite a bit! Rivers confirms that Pat is the sole writer - is this the first time a Weezer single wasn’t even co-written by Rivers?
Hmmm. I’ll have to hear this in the context of the album. It’s a bit one note, although I really like that note. Kinda sounds like a Maladroit b-side/outtake that doesn’t quite have the dynamics or highs to make that album. Could rip as a nice palette cleanser in between two poppier Weezer tracks though. We’ll see. I like that there’s nothing cringe or wacky going on within the song.
I saw some speculation on Reddit that they may have just decided to release the first song they had done or almost done to capitalize on the recent popularity of Go Away. That kind of makes sense since Rivers said in that KROQ interview that they haven’t even decided on an album title yet. However he did specifically say that they are talking about titles, cover art, and “colors.” I’m gonna be disappointed if it’s not a color album lol.
