I remember when Maladroit came out and it had 13 tracks instead of 10, my mind was blown that Weezer took a departure from the 10-song album. Looking back now, it seems kinda silly, but I also find it interesting that 8 of their 11 albums have been 10 tracks long. Only Maladroit, Make Believe and EWBAITE break the mold. I would be hard pressed to pick three songs from Maladroit, I think the length is justified. I could easily cut two from Make Believe, I think the album could have benefited from two songs being relegated to bonus tracks. I would definitely combine The Futurescope Trilogy into a single track, then remove Back To The Shack for a perfect 10-tracks. Obviously it doesn't matter, but I like the idea of a consistent track length over a discography.
Two listens in now, I really really like this record. I’ve always respected and liked Blue and Pinkerton, just never returned to them. And then didn’t like anything else until White. This feels like a continuation of White, and just has solid pop writing across the board. I was worried about the record after reading some of the comments on it on here. And I might in a minority on this, but I do think this is at least in the same ballpark of quality as White. Also a big fan of the album art.
Mexican Fender is such a good song. Crazy how much I’m enjoying this album. I mean...I liked the White and ETWBAIT but those had to grow on me for whatever reason. Pacific Daydream caught my attention on first listen and hasn’t let go. This hasn’t happened to me since the Maladroit and Green album days.
I still haven't given this a proper listen. Did a half-ass listen on YouTube last week while at work. Nothing sounded crazy awful, but nothing sounded crazy great either.
Yeah I remember when Maladroit came out all my friends were like "holy shit theres 13 songs this time!" But what made it even funnier was that the album was still 30 minutes just like Green.
My friend who never really got into Weezer texted me and goes...”I’m really liking this new Weezer album. Wish it had a few more songs though.” Thought it was funny bc of the conversation going on in this thread. Btw...did anyone order the transparent and pink vinyl? If so, I’m jealous. I was late to the game.
“El Scorcho” is still the best Weezer song. I think I always cite some other song when asked, but then I listen to “El Scorcho” and realize I’m an idiot, it’s the goat. For real though Blue and Pinkerton are two of the most perfect records ever. Not sure what I’d do without them.
yeah, when ever weezer releases a new record, i celebrate by binge listening to blue and pinkerton back to back for a week.
While that is a cool tour that I'll definitely be going to, this will be my 6th time seeing Weezer and not a single one has been a regular headline tour
Love this album. Really wish they were coming to town sooner. August is just too darn far away from now.
