Was literally about to submit my review for tomorrow but now I'm considering rewording some things because it's so depressing how clearly Rivers longs for some form of mainstream radio recognition post-"Bevery Hills" and how it's just not going to happen. Gah.
Almost done with my discography runthrough to prepare for the new album and it only reaffirmed my belief that Hurley is extremely underrated. Better than both Green and Red and definitely Make Believe and Raditude
Feels Like Summer was getting a lot of radio play for a while around here, but yea nothing like back in the day.
Do either of you happen to know if it's college radio/some kind of online station or a mainstream pop/rock station?
Review submitted, should be up today or tomorrow. 1. Blue 2, Pinkerton 3. Maladroit 4. Everything Will Be Alright in the End 5. White 6. Green 7. Make Believe 8. Pacific Daydream 9. Hurley 10. Red 11. Raditude
I haven't heard all of Pacific Daydream but the rest would be pretty similar to my ranking. I would just switch Red and Hurley.
Hurley is such a weird album because the songs aren't bad (for the most part) but something about it just feels...sterile. Like, the most generic parts of this album still somehow manage to feel more genuine. It's hard to explain.
This will not be a landmark album for them. It feels more like a reimagining of the White Album, which felt more like something of a landmark. Still, I am sure I will enjoy it.
7/10 for me on the first listen. Feels like Summer, QB Blitz, and Sweet Mary don't do it for me. I do enjoy the direction they went. Hopefully they got it out of their system with this release. Need more nerd rock riffs. On to the Black Album we go. PS. I REALLY REALLY like La Mancha Screwjob. Super fun and catchy.
Outside of "Beach Boys" this is a really good record. Not as good as White, but much better than that terrible stretch of records from a few years ago.
