Yes, according to the Zane Lowe interview when PD was announced the Black Album is nearly finished. Buuut from what I've heard Rivers say it's going to be them in full on radio pop mode. Pacific Daydream is essentially the transition between White and Black.
I really love Tripping Down the Freeway from Raditude and Ruling Me from Hurley. I find Hurley underrated in general though
I forgot how good Ruling Me is!! It is insane how unbelievably inconsistent they can be. They've written some of the best in the genre, and some of the worst ever.
You'd think that would make sense. I'd like a slightly darker Weezer, I mean White was already pretty poppy.
CONFESSION: I actually enjoy I Can't Stop Partying. It's so ridiculous it's enjoyable. (Although I prefer the solo acoustic version). Also, Unspoken off Hurley is one of my favorite Weezer song of the 2000s.
I said it a few pages back, I'll say it again. I feel they are doing GREAT since Hurley (2010) Songs like Trainwrecks, Hang On and Run Away proved (to me) that they still got it. The outro from "Run Away" (starts at 2:00) comes really close to "Only in Dreams" levels of epic-ness IMO. Can't believe there are people here who rank Hurley lower than Red/Rad.. It's just sad
By darker he didn't mean like Pinkerton or Maladroit. He kept on talking about groups like 21 Pilots being a big influence on his writing for Black. We'll see.
Interesting. Trying to imagine what a Weezer with sensible, slightly dark and actually fully coherent lyrics would sound like.
Wish we could turn back time To the good old days When Rivers would sing good songs But now we're stressed out
New song is out there I've accepted that this will be an incredibly poppy album but this song is super catchy so I don't mind
