Damn guys I wrote 1200 words about the thing lol no one is obligated to read it but we really don't need to keep arguing about Pitchfork
Honestly if it weren’t for this website, I’m not even sure I would even know what Pitchfork was and the funniest part about it is it seems to be universally hated here yet it’s talked about ad nauseam.
Continuing to play this discography on shuffle. Starting to realize I like Death to False Metal more than I remember (still not saying its good though). Trampoline and Odd Couple are keepers.
Waiting for my vinyl to arrive to listen, but will read your review once I’ve finally heard the damn thing, haha
I was reading on the history of what era each song was from, and was surprised to see that Unbreak My Heart was from the Make Believe sessions. Apparently Rick Rubin was pushing for them to include it on the album. Would've stuck out like a sore thumb on that tracklist.....but seeing how Africa took off I could've seen that really elevating MB sales/popularity if it was released as a 4th single.
I usually end up agreeing with Ian Cohen while disagreeing with the scores attached to the reviews. I know the pitchfork scores used to be decided separately from the content of the review.
Appreciate it! My vinyl came yesterday but I can't play it yet because I'm having some issues with my turntable. Lol, not getting into decimals but it's a solid 8
This was my choice also - it’s 100% worth it to pay $20 to Amazon instead of $37 to the Weezer store even with the delay.
Yeah, I actually got it for $17 yesterday (it said down from $19.99)! Free shipping as opposed to the absurd shipping rate Weezer had.
I own False Metal and don't remember how a single song on it sounds besides the cover lol It got maybe two listens
I’m about to get crucified for this ranking but I’m dropping it in here anyway because I think I’m starting to think I’m the only Weezer fan on earth that doesn’t love Pinkerton. White Pacific Daydream Green EWBAITE Blue Ok Human Hurley Raditude Make Believe Pinkerton Black Maladroit Red Teal Also, Aloo Gobi is going to end up in my top 10 Weezer songs. I’m really really enjoying this album. The flow between songs in the middle of the album has some Sgt Pepper DNA for sure.
Updated bracket now or after van Weezer? More surprised at the Blue placement tbh. Well, if there one thread for vastly different album rankings, it’s this one, so welcome aboard!
I don’t like when Ian’s complete disdain for the band backhands any compliment or great parts he mentions. Rivers has always written like this one every album and if this is a shock or disappointment I’m not sure why people like this even review or attempt to listen to an album.
The song cycle nature of OK Human reminds me of the Van Dyke Parks album Song Cycle: RC’s songs don’t really remind me a ton of VDP tho. Or Nilsson or Newman for that matter. He’s a lot sweeter, I’ve always thought his melodies are kinda Cat Stevensy
you probably are the only the only weezer fan on earth who doesn’t love Pinkerton, but I love this ranking
