What's wrong with goofy? Weezer makes fun interesting music (mostly) and sometimes they can hit an emotional nerve like no one else, but their work is consistently enjoyable which is more than I can say for many other bands

 

Weezer is one of the best American rock and roll bands and that is a fact.

I heard Numbers this morning and declared it to be the best Post-Pinkerton song. God damn Rivers

 

I almost think if someone wanted me to explain who Weezer is based on one record, it might be this one. The earnestness it takes to sing some of these songs with a straight face, while pulling off these arrangements and melodies? I don’t know who else can do that. This is band that’s survived two dozen trends in rock music over 25+ years, and at the end of the day, they’re just unapologetically themselves. Rivers just leans into these songs in a way that’s either a reflection of a total lack of self awareness or a total comfort with who he is, and it’s just incredible to hear.

Aloo Gobi has been stuck in my head all day. There's some classic =w= in that chorus for sure.

P sure I'd fire Playing My Piano into the sun, am annoyed by the Audible product placement on Grapes, and Screens is just fine, but I legitimately really like the rest a ton

 

The melody on Numbers is nice but I don’t like the lyrics. Jacked Up, Perfect Situation or one of the Hurley tracks are all still probably my favorite post-Mal tracks

I’m not ready to say I like this more than White or Maladroit (my 3 and 4) yet but I’m loving this thing. Breeze(r) to get through too. Listened several times today.

 

i said the two had similar career trajectories in the JEW thread and the reaction was worse than when I said Fleetwood mac was bad
