I really enjoyed this! Favorites on first listen are Numbers, Aloo Gobi and La Brea Tar Pits. Love how each song flows into the next one so well.
now very curious to hear the full version of "Everything Happens for a Reason" that Rivers says was his favourite song on the album, it's very strange they cut it for such a small interlude
The lyrics on this are...certainly Weezer lyrics, but the arrangements and production are outstanding
Yeah, so "Numbers." Wow. Truly didn't think they had a song like that in them. Chorus gives me Bends-era Radiohead vibes.
The mellotron is also giving me occasional Summerteeth vibes. Not 100% on a couple of these songs on first listen, but yeah, this is really good.
A couple of thoughts: The choruses from Aloo Gobi and Grapes of Wrath have THE hooks. Playing My Piano sounds like if Weezer wrote a James Bond theme
My least favorites are the run of "Mirror Image" through "Bird With a Broken Wing." Not bad, just didn't do much for me. But the last two songs or SO Harry Nilsson. I love it.
This is a great listen, it feels like one long piece of music in a good way. Here Comes the Rain is probably my favorite but I really love the first couple songs too I really like how they're experimenting more than ever. No idea where I'd rank this yet but it would definitely be in the top half I can't believe we have another album in three months lol
I thought this was pretty bad on first listen and pretty good on my second playthrough now. Bird With a Broken Wing is excellent and Numbers not far behind. A lot of the rest is just okay but I liked Aloo Gobi a lot more the second time around so we'll see about the rest. The mix is magical, can't believe how good it sounds.
modern weezers of the city. I liked this! the new sound blended organically with their usual sound. lost a bit of it's luster as it went on and the lyrics made me wince a few times but that's expected. im excited to keep hanging out with this one.
What a lush sounding album. Like the other two post-Pinkerton albums I adore (EWBAITE and White), the lyrics are a bit cringy at times, but the hooks are killer and the orchestral sound is out of this world. Really very impressed.
