Finally relistened to Black for the first time pretty much since it came out and just like I remembered: it does not start very good, gets much worse (looking at you Zombie Bastards), and then is fine but forgettable for a few songs. But then things really pick up at I'm Just Being Honest and I really like it from that point. Byzantine is probably my favorite
I don’t remember what a single song from Black sounds like, and that’s something I can’t say about any other Weezer record
I dare you, DARE you, to provide a compelling argument against moving any of my rankings more than one category better "die die you zombie bastards" i've said enough
You could probably single out a hundred other lines by Rivers out of context and many of them would be in good songs Looking at you "my ocular nerve went pop zoom" lol
only correct thing posted on the last page, thank you "your soothing midnight mantra" melody is absolutely sublime
I honestly don't know how I feel about Pacific Daydream. It's pleasant to listen to, but a lot of it's just not that memorable to me. I do like Beach Boys and La Mancha Screwjob a lot though.
Get Right, Any Friend of Diane's, and I'm Just Being Honest are the best songs on either PD or Black.
"QB Blitz" is the best song on the record for my money and there's no chance in hell the Disney-pop of "La Mancha Screwjob" is better than it. Also, "If I die it means that I lived my life and that's much better than hiding in a hole." I can pull lines from "Zombie Bastards" out of context too lol. It's a song about Blue/Pink diehards who won't let go of the band growing up.
I have updated rankings since my Discogs run 1. Pinkerton 2. Blue 3. Maladroit 4. Ok Human 5. White 6. Green 7. Black 8. EWBAITE 9. Make Believe 10. Hurley 11. Red 12. Teal 13. Pacific Daydream 14. Raditude
QB Blitz is just.... So bad, I'm sorry. I'll give you the context points for zombies content though. I really don't think that it works in practice, I think it comes off incredibly stupid despite the meaning.
