if you can’t admit perfect situation is a pretty perfectly crafted melody you probably shouldn’t be allowed to post thoughts on music online
Can't Stop Partying is one of if not the worst unless we're talking about the AOL Sessions version with Chamllionaire, which should replace the album version..
Can't Stop Partying is a bad song, but I think it is silly and funny. I don't get the cringe that others do off that song.
Yeah I agree about partying, it's obviously not their best song, but it serves it's purpose well enough and is enjoyable
I like this new song despite the lyrics being very "cat sat on the mat" style bad. Between this and the Van Weezer songs it feels like Rivers is in a very good place song writing wise.
For me, ‘Everybody Get Dangerous’ redefines what a bad Weezer song can be. It’s almost a parody of other bad Weezer songs, and sounds like they wrote it as part of a hostage negotiation in which one of the stipulations was they write the theme song for a CBS action show that would be canceled midway through the first season. It’s one of my least favorite songs that’s ever existed, by anyone. Also, I feel like Make Believe as a whole is one of the most sincere albums Rivers has written. He sorta put himself out there in a way he hasn’t done outside of Pinkerton. And for me, that redeems the cheesy parts of the record enough that they don’t bother me anymore. I love that album more than I care to admit, really and even the missteps (looking around you, We Are All on Drugs) feel more endearingly goofy than actually unenjoyable.
everybody get dangerous sucks ass but it reminds me of going joyriding with my buddies when I was 14 so I’ve got some room in my heart for it
The bridge of Everybody Get Dangerous is fun hahaha. I get not liking the song, but idk how it could be considered the worst when we've got In the Mall, Love Is the Answer, & Smart Girls
not sure if they did this at every show during the Red Album Tour but they covered "Morning Glory" at MSG in 08' and it was great.
This post is 100% it, a lot of folks seem to think the songwriting on Make Believe is generic but aside from a few outliers, I agree that it has some of Rivers' most genuine songwriting. Just because it comes from a more positive place than Pinkerton doesn't make it inauthentic
I actually like the Prince song, "Too Many Thoughts in My Head" is my least favorite on Black. The cookie line makes me cringe every time. Damn I like both of these songs lol but I also like both of those albums more than most people. Feel like "Happy Hour" deserves more love for just being a genuinely pleasant and fun song to listen to. They do a four-part harmony on the word "coconut" for christ's sake Truly polarizing lol I think Hurley is plastic and kinda inauthentic, "Smart Girls" and "Brave New World" are tough for me to get through
I don’t hate Love is the Answer, but In the Mall and Smart Girls are absolutely on the Weezer Mount Rushmore of awfulness.
too many thoughts is okay. there’s a way worse demo of it in the EWBAITE demos haha edit: nvm I just remembered what the cookie line actually is
Yeah the cookie line easily makes that my least favorite on Black. I re-listened to Black today though and had a weirdly good time Also listened to Midnight for the first time while spending WAY too much time on Weezerpedia
I think in general, Weezer albums that have a distinct, cohesive feel to them are far more forgivable when it comes to the individual songs. Say what you while about PD and Black, but those feel like true albums - I can tell these were songs that came out of a specific writing session for a specific project. So yeah, fine, not every individual track is awesome, but when I listen to the album it feels fine. The stuff that bugs me the most is when it feels disjointed. Raditude, Hurley, Red - those albums all feel like random songs stuck in a playlist. They don’t feel like one thing. So those misses feel way more egregious. In my opinion at least.
