It does sound a little bit like Pacific Daydream meets slightly better songwriting, which would maybe be a letdown given the relative hype they've built for this, but would be a welcome entry to the discography overall.
Listened to the song again this morning. Still sounds like Ben Folds, so it’s a bop. I’m still going into this with low exceptions and try my best to enjoy it for what it is. Van Weezer is coming and i feel like that is going to be more of the Weezer I prefer. This band is an anomaly.
Rivers always said OK Human was going to be more subdued. I hope to nothing like PD, but I expect some songs like “High As A Kite” from Black. Not through the moon hyped on this or Van Weezer, but I think some good songs will come out of them.
I think that this song is definitely the radio single and the rest of the album has a good chance of fitting the mold of this orchestral/piano 70's vibe they're going for. And if that's not true, that's also fine because the single is fucking good.
Considering he can't hear the Van Halen influence in "End of the Game", I think this person's ears are broken lol. Also, All My Favorite Songs sounds nothing like PD or Black. Also, who was expecting this album to sound like Blue?????
Very glad this song is nothing like PD or Black. I like a lot of the stuff they did on those records but on the whole I'd rather they move away from that sound. Which they clearly are, at least for the next few records. This one included.
Yea. As a massive, borderline obsessive EVH fan growing up, The End of the Game has a lot of nods to Van Halen. The two-hand tapping, the chunky sus sounding chords, the tapped harmonics - and that's all in the first 30 seconds of the song! The whammy dive at the end is also an EVH staple. Everything in between is pretty much a Weezer song, but obviously this guy is either oblivious or he's nitpicking to an unreasonable degree.
Been continuing my discography run, I'm starting to think I like EWBAITE more than White. They really take some cool chances on this one. Also sounds like Rivers tried harder than usual on the lyrics for most of these songs. Either way you rank em, EWBAITE to White was an amazing return to form for them.
couple of links to the indie store variant - Weezer - Ok Human (Splatter Colored Vinyl) https://shop.lunamusic.net/Weezer-Ok-Human-Colored-Vinyl-Edition-VINYL-LP-p/075678645891.htm
White may edge it out for me these days, but EWBAITE has some of Rivers' best post-Pink lyricism. "My daddy loved me/No one could touch me/Until he went and left me lonely/That's human nature/We fail each other/And keep on searching for another" That may read relatively simple, but I remember his Maron interview about reconciling with his father while writing the album and that definitely comes through. Crazy what he can do when he doesn't use Excel to write his songs, lol.
just finished raditude. album would be so much better replacing can’t stop partying and put me back together with prettiest girl and the underdogs
Want You To and Put Me Back Together. Actually I Don't Want To Let You Go is pretty good also. I'd say replace Love Is The Answer with The Underdogs, and replace In the Mall with Prettiest Girl. Also replace I'm You Daddy with Get Me Some and The Girl Got Hot with Run Over By A Truck. Also replace Can't Stop Partying with the acoustic version.
Yeah idk how replacement doesn't start with Love Is The Answer and In The Mall. Put Me Back Together is great. Or replace Love Is The Answer with Sugar Ray's version of it lol. I don't mind that one
Put Me Back Together sounds like Weezer doing an old-school All-American Rejects song, because that's exactly what it is, and it's great lol
