Really like the song and have high hopes for the album. Some of the sad/mad rhyming isn’t hitting right with me on first listen but I know I’ll end up loving this
Yea, sometimes I can't tell if Rivers intentionally oversimplifies his lyrics/rhymes, or if it's just lazy. Either way, some of their catchiest songs have the most obvious, bland lyrics. It's like he knows the dopamine hit from the melody makes me forget what he's saying (insert Hook by Blues Traveler reference, etc etc).
GUYS I AM FUCKING HYPED. Getting major Pretty. Odd. vibes. Went to go buy the green slime vinyl and, um, I'm not paying $13 for shipping.
typical silly weezer lyrics but, man, i love the sound of the instrumentation and the melody here. god dammit. they got me again. idk if it’s just the strings or knowing they worked at abbey road putting it in my head, or that i just spent most of the month listening to the beatles, but there is definitely some beatlesque vibes going on here
I dig it! The strings really come together nicely near the end. also does that intro remind me of something
Similar, yes. But the melody reminds me of some other chorus or pre-chorus I've heard. I'm going to find it dammit.
It reminds me of the "California Kids" or "Pink Triangle" intro, but played on a...mellotron? Is that right?
melotron just kinda immediately sounds like magical mystery tour regardless of what’s being played on it
This is pretty solid. I definitely wouldn't call it great, especially given the laziness of the chorus, but it keeps my cautious optimism that this will be an interesting B tier Weezer record fully intact. Agree that it sounds like a Pretty Odd song, which is quite welcome - that album always has and still does kick ass. Hope no electric guitars sounds natural and not gimmicky across a half hour of this.
love the single, which I dont think ive loved a lead single from them for a very long time. going to pre order the indie variant whenever its posted.
Yeah that PD meets Black comment has me worried. I'm just gonna assume the reviewer doesn't know what he's talking about haha. I get zero PD/Black vibes from the single. He also said he doesn't hear any Van Halen vibes in End of the Game?
