The project’s lead single, “We Might As Well Be Strangers” featuring Wednesday, is out now, weaving vocals from Rivers Cuomo and Wednesday’s Karly Hartzman. After sharing Blue, Green, Red, White, Teal, and Black albums, Weezer returns with a new color in their arsenal for Weezer—their 20th album over their monumental, decades-long run. Following an incredible, sold-out 30th anniversary tour that saw the band play their iconic debut album in full, Weezer reconvened in Orange County, a midway point between where they all live in California. There, they essentially went back to where they started: a rehearsal space, playing together, writing together, and figuring out what they wanted to do next and what shape that next project would take. Weezer was born out of those sessions—just four guys in a room, creating together. The result is a tightly wound, ready-to-spring record with songs written by three of the band’s four members, marking the first time frontman and guitarist Rivers Cuomo and drummer Pat Wilson had written the basics of a song together since the band’s debut album. When it came time to record, the band enlisted two producers whose approaches differed dramatically but aligned with Weezer’s vision: Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume (formerly known as Kenny Beats). Blume said he wanted to make “the most violent Weezer album ever.” While Åhlund took a more mathematical and stringent approach to recording, Blume pushed for a “rock band in a room” atmosphere—no grid, no click track, and no pitch correction. Drums were recorded with all four members playing live, listening to one another, and continuing to reshape the songs in real time. Weezer plays to the band’s enduring strengths and feels like an imagined greatest-hits collection made entirely of new material. It’s a direct, raw iteration of the group—an album that feels as urgent and vital as anything else in their catalog, even three decades into their career. The record features tongue-in-cheek, self-aware songs about aging as a band, weighing legacy, and continuing forward, alongside tracks celebrating where they are today: one of the most influential artists in the world for anyone picking up a guitar, bass, or pair of drumsticks. Earlier this year, the band announced their Weezer: The Gathering tour, a massive 32-date run across North America. They’ll be joined by The Shins and Silversun Pickups as support. never really listened to weezer but i really fucking like this song. i don't remember rivers sounding like that though.
Weezer, who made many albums as colors, decides to make emblems for the members, that is totally in the movie and, sir, you are a raging psychopath, and your idea is definitely in the movie
I like this song. Got that classic chord progression. Hope it becomes a big hit for them. I do find it weird that Rivers voice is doing the Benjamin Button thing and he sounds very child like in later era Weezer.
