Last Crusade is an interesting example. I thought Raiders of the Lost Ark was the overwhelming favorite but I liked the buddy team-up concept of Last Crusade.
I’ve never seen the whole original Momma Mia and don’t care to, but I love Here We Go Again. Shoutout to YouTube’s Patrick Willems for making a video about it that convinced me to check it out.
Of the original Batman films, I actually find the 1989 film to be the least interesting. Returns, Forever, and Batman and Robin are all more audacious.
Jason X really should have been funnier. It’s a knowingly totally ridiculous idea, but aside from the ending with Jason in VR Camp Crystal Lake, it’s really dull.
Before Sunset is the first one I thought of, I love the entire trilogy but that's the one that sticks with me the most. I'd also say The Raid 2 and Pearl.
Great call with Before Sunset. I love all three, but that one is the clear standout. It has such a strong sense of urgency. We know these two are going down a path of regret if they don't give the relationship a shot.
Last Crusade is for sure my favorite Indy. I was also going to say Creed, but it's been so long since I saw the original Rocky that I think Creed just wins out on recency bias. I'm also unsure if that counts since it's more of a spin-off than a sequel.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol II. Most MCU movies aren't really for me, and it's been a while since I watched this one, but it's easily my favorite and really the only one that I find myself thinking about every now and then.
I like Blade Runner: 2049 more than the original, but I don’t think that’s a popular opinion. I usually say Raiders is my favorite Indy, but Last Crusade is just as good.
10 Cloverfield Lane Another grey area since it was very clearly written as a completely different story that was then bought and tacked on a Cloverfield sequel at the end.
