Damn looks like it's gonna be a FIAD day in my car. Glad I have a physical copy cause it just sounds so much better on my car speakers! Also guess I gotta check out Empire Pleasure can't listen at work til i get in my car. Does Brian sing in that band?
I don't think I ever got a clear answer - is Box done for or is this more of a hiatus? I've been listening to them all morning and it's sad thinking it's over.
You didn't get a clear answer because there is no clear answer. Hope it's a hiatus. But it may not be.
I thought this thread being bumped was good news. Bummer. The Cosmic Drama slays. How different is the topshelf version? Figured I'd get it since the money will go to charity atm
The big difference is that they replaced the original "They're Ready for Us To Come Home" with a re-recorded full-band version they did in 2014. I don't really listen to that version of the album because of that, really not a fan of that change. It was also remastered, and if you have a trained ear you can pick out some differences, but I don't necessarily think it sounds noticeably better or worse.
Thanks. I'll give it a listen to see how I like the change but worst case scenario some money goes to charity. Do you just have a preference of versions or is the new one actively bad to you? I probably won't really hear the difference in the mastering either, but still nice to have.
I just think the re-recording is inferior (tho still good) and totally throws off the mood of the first half of the album. The production on the song is noticeably different than the production of the other full-band songs on the album and it's distracting to me. Idk. I just think it was a really bizarre, poor choice and most of the other people I've talked to who hold that album highly feel similarly. It really bothers me that they pressed physical copies like that, especially, because the original vinyl pressing of TCD had its own problems (sound quality isn't great, and there are 2 second gaps between songs that aren't present on other formats which totally messes up the flow of the record) and I was really looking forward to having a better sounding copy. I don't really listen to my copy of the re-press it all, just sits on my shelf. Idk, it's not that big of a deal for most, I'm sure, but TCD is tied for my favorite album ever and I hold it very dearly.
That's enough hope for me. Dude's keeping it cryptic. Something tells me he would have said 'I'm done' instead of beating around the bush. He's published some honest shit in the past.
Yikes they've got some bad luck. It's wild it messes up the whole flow, gonna have to make time to listen to both versions instead of just the one song. What's the other record, if you don't mind my asking? TMTMTP?
I mean, maybe you'll get something different out of it! Who knows? Yep, that's the one! I tend to like the black sheep records I guess lol.
Listened to a bunch of stuff last night, the proper way - with headphones and no other distractions. I love Flies so much.
