I prefer bouncy/groovy Box to acoustic/folky. Both are great though.

 

I still can't entirely get into TCD. Like it, definitely, still haven't fallen for it like I have the others

 

I keep going on Box sprees where I just listen to them for like 3 months straight then forget about them for a while then go back and repeat forever and ever

Love them so much tho

Drama > Flies [HUGE GAP] > American Art

TCD [HUGE GAP]>Rattle>FIAD>AA

 

If you had to explain why you consider it far and away their best release, what would you say why?

 

Flies = Cosmic > Art imo

I must admit I don't dig Flies anywhere near as much as TCD or American Art, which bums me out. I can appreciate the record, but Kick-Flips is really the only song I come back to with any regularity.

for a moment there, I thought it could reach Drama greatness

it didn't because, frankly, Drama is one of those rare records where planets allign for an artist and lucidity settles in and everything works beautifuly - the madness of it, the songs, so much fucking pathos - Flies didn't stand a chance

so yeah, being second best to something like that is not bad at all

and it's a cheerful, life affirming alternative to a difficult, heavy record

Flies is cool

 

Flies is so life-affirming! Drag Out, The Drones, and Ghost Malls are so bright and perfect next to each other

 

yeah

it doesn't get any better than the The Devil + Dark All Night one-two punch

(BoC is soook good, listened to Music Has today and oooh god)

hope this just means a break of like a year or so to get back on track

 

i listened to AJ's recent interview (which you can listen to here) and he says that they have new material written and theyre planning on recording at some point soon. seems like a lot is up in the air because brian is sitting on a "massive wealth of unreleased material"

he doesn't mention anything about a hiatus though. hoping there's an update at some point soon

 

What the fuck....

 

i mean, the band has taken multiple "hiatuses" throughout the years, where they don't do real touring or anything. how many real shows did they do this year? they're just making it clear so people don't ask

i miss them

 

they've played a lot of shows in the SD area tho, this makes it seem they're not going to be playing any shows for a good while, maybe a year or longer

 

yeah i know. still think they could use the rest, especially with brian's history

I was hoping to catch them at some point while in NYC... :(

new album would almost compensate for lack of live shows tho

on the other side, I'm glad Brian gets some rest

Edit: damn. Why does it have to be in the middle of the week. Probably won't make it.

 

Sounds like they may be taking a break to record a new album (fingers crossed) but then again they release music as sparingly as Brand New...
