It would be cool to plug that character into an entirely different universe/past life, where it feels like a brand new world and movie.
So don't see it. Not trying to be flippant, I'm serious. Cregger had this mapped out but cut it out probably cause the film didn't need it and he feels like you do, but he did still have it mapped out beforehand, so there's comfort in the fact that he's not crafting this just because the film did well, it's something that he had available to use. But if you'd rather it all remain a mystery, you don't have to see the film. Let it continue to be a mystery.
Yeah I’d prefer another original story from him since we’re already getting Resident Evil and then maybe more Gladys, but I’ll see his shit either way
well he did have two very different scenarios for her background and let the actor secretly decide how she would portray it without revealing it to him. I wouldn’t say that is “mapped out” in terms of a vision for a prequel.
Yeah, cutting a 20-minute character section is not exactly he same as having a prequel in the tank but I'm gonna see it obviously. It's just hard not to see the dollar signs in WB's eyes
Dude has enough goodwill that I will watch anything he does, but nothing could interest me less than worldbuilding and shit lol. Let the crazy lady from the movie just be the crazy lady from the movie
If not a trilogy, at least a duology. They were filmed back to back and Pearl was like, a secret until X was released
I realize I am fully dating myself here and old man ranting at cloud with this post but fuck it, here it goes - I watched a little bit of this last night, and I really don't see the complaints about cinematography when so much crap they dump on us nowadays has actors inside a room in front of green screen for shots of them just standing outside. making everything look glossy and slick and expensive like a music video or a Michael Bay movie is not the only aspect of cinematography.
Thought the cinematography was good and served the film. The stand out shots were the gun above the house and the headbanging kitchen which both work by have the surreal elements appear inside the "boring" framing. End chase was awesome, super fun to watch and very satisfying. This is the climax of the movie and it's magic is those cuts were you see the number 2 least threatening group in our society, 8 year Olds chasing the number 1, 80 year old women. You need that flat shot to enjoy the absurdity of the image out of the context possession vs witch.
the meat and potatoes of this film is punchy mystery thriller writing, not a coincidence that 2 of the pov characters are a policeman and a home detective. the camera wants us to keep up and follow the clues, the more flashy the cinematography the less you want to do that, in I saw the tv glow the cameras telling don't worry too much but make sure youre vibing emotionally with the characters.
Just to clarify, I am specifically being critical of lighting, not cinematography. The camera moves well throughout the whole film
ah ok I include lighting as part of cinematography, but even separately I think its still good and serves the film.
it just seemed like an interesting critique to me, because I didn't notice anything negative about the look of the movie and actually thought about how awesome some of the blocking and framing was when he was playing around with the POVs admittedly I am not overly concerned with lighting unless something really cool is going on like with Barry Lyndon or The VVitch or something like that plus I grew up on low and no budget horror movies, but still nothing stuck out to me as amateurish or anything like that. I'll have to really look out for it though on my next full rewatch.
I am still watching no/low budget horror movies, and they have a depth of color in them that is almost completely absent today
Yeah, I don’t think of it as a Weapons specific thing, but a lot of modern horror movies are dark and bleak and kind of bland color wise. I Saw the TV Glow had some masterful use of colors in a modern, artistic way that’d I’d love to see more movies take inspiration from. I don’t think it takes anything away from Weapons, just part of a style that’s kind of become the norm.
I had a whole long rant in that earlier post that I deleted about how at least this movie wasn't filmed in a giant green room with the actors running on green treadmills but I deleted it because it was too much even for me
