I got kicked out of What Women Want (Cast Away was sold out) because someone tripped, sent a massive bag of Skittles rolling down the aisle, then shouted FUCK at the top of their voice. 25 years later I'm still crying laughing thinking about it.
yeah, I saw this one in theaters too, and I remember being surprised at how much penis I saw up on the big screen that day I genuinely can't remember what the first rated R movie I saw in theaters was though
so it wasn’t just the theater huh Might get flamed for this one but, I’m excited about cregger as a director in terms of fun horror stories, but he doesn’t have a ton of visual flare at all. Both of his films are shot pretty styleless.
I disagree for Weapons, which had a lot of fun stuff going on visually and played with the form in ways that were interesting but not showy, but either way I don't think you need to be worried about his next one - Dariusz Wolski has been shooting amazing looking movies with directors known for their visual style - like Ridley Scott, Gore Verbinski, Tim Burton & Alex Proyas - for decades
I disagree with “visual flare” and “styleless”. He definitely has an eye for images that stick with you, and his camerawork is interesting. I will agree in terms of like, interesting framing and lighting I guess
I noticed lighting maybe slightly more on second watch, but as someone whose biggest pet peeve is poor light, it really hasn't struck me in either of his recent films. Very much disagree with that criticism
that's why I thought this was an interesting critique, because I actually noticed him doing some really cool stuff with blocking & framing, playing with the alternating POV's, in a somewhat similar way to what the Coen Bros did in No Country For Old Men, which to me was a little more subtle and unique (or quirky maybe) vs strictly making something look big budget & expensive and I do remember some shots that were just plain awesome looking in this, particularly with some of the kids running at night
