Wait… I’m catching up on this thread and he’s working on a Resident Evil movie next? That is so so disappointing

 

Yup, but he says it doesn't follow any of the games, so who knows how it'll come out.

Yeah.. but the few RE movies I’ve seen have all had nothing to do with the games, and have been complete dog shit. He’s so creative and interesting I just want him to do his own thing instead.

no, that's my thought too. although I will say that he's earned our faith while he tries whatever he wants next. the Super Mario movie was pretty good.

 

I saw an interview where he talked about it as the exact opposite of this. Compared it a mix of the games, he’s never seen any of the movies. He wanted the job because he had a creative idea for something weird structurally to do within the universe that was in line with the games, obviously didn’t say what. And the studio gave him full creative control with the IP.

so yeah, I think he is doing his own thing with it, which is another structurally weird horror movie with a twist or tone shift in the middle.

 

Hopefully the twist in the middle is Boyle finishes directing the movie and adds zombies with huge hogs.

 

I thought I remembered him saying it was an original concept that he is now retrofitting into a Resident Evil film, albeit it still being a lot more straightforward action-horror than this or Barbarian

no he said he’s always loved the games and made a script that felt in the world of their games without watching any of the other stuff
