“It’s Labor Day and my principal just ate seven fucking hotdogs. He’s always smash, smash, smashing his face”
Finally caught this - loved the humor, fun and game performances throughout josh brolin now occupies a cultural position close to kyle maclachlan's, I think? american everyman not afraid to go goofy or menacing as required, seems to chase directors above all? I swear it's not just the Dune connection making me say this. a bit of the "guess what zach cregger was watching when they designed this shot/sequence" factor got to be distracting but that's likely a me problem. but I mean damn the mustache cop lift from magnolia (not just the look, almost the whole character) is pretty over the top the 90-100 minute version of this movie that ditches the structural device of chapters and viewpoints/replaying scenes with new context would have absolutely KILLED. it didn't ruin the movie (though it messes with the pacing) but I'm not convinced it added anything that worthwhile. cool dream sequences LOVED the narration, particularly in the opening montage, which was so virgin suicides coded I actually welled up a bit by association resident evil seems like a good idea, because as fun as his movies have been I'm curious to see what he can do with someone else's playground for a change. (I mean jackie brown is the best tarantino so)
no disrespect but that’s a crazy comparison for josh brolin lol he has been a bigger star than machlachlan ever was for like 15 years now
I'm not comparing star level or anything, more concerned with the actual roles he's choosing I guess. but also kyle maclachlan WAS pretty damn everywhere in the late 80s to mid 90s. (I mean he's been everywhere since then too but as more of a broad cult figure or whatever)
RE: resident evil I think it sounds like he had a script already written that he adapted into resident evil
That makes sense. I assume though that the IP holders will have certain restrictions or some kind of say on the contents so there will be some limits to his imagination.
that is not the vibe i got. he has been saying he’s a massive fan of the games and plays them constantly so he just wrote a script that feels true to the games despite never watching another RE movie at least that’s what he said on big pic and the horror podcast of one of his wkuk castmates
i think it’s just not going to be tied down super closely to the overarching IP of the series but feel like one of the more standalone games that they did
he’s been mentioning RE4 a lot which one of the ones not in raccoon city (dumb name) with the characters from some of the other games
1. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2. Pulp Fiction 3. Jackie Brown 4. Django Unchained 5. The Hateful Eight 6. Reservoir Dogs 7. Kill Bill Vol. 2 8. Inglorious Basterds 9. Kill Bill Vol. 1 10. Death Proof (his only semi-stinker, still fun and I know he doesn't count it so it's whatever) in b4 Pat gets really mad about this
I mean when all of those movies range between like an 8.5 and a 10 you're pretty much splitting hairs based on personal preference. He's an insufferable man but his movies don't miss
