Yea, the original expectations were $25-30 million for the weekend and now it's been pushed to $40-43 million, really cool to see and so awesome for Zach
Loved this. Weird thread. Some of you have terrible comprehension and I question whether or not you pay attention to movies while watching them.
Movie kicked ass. Alex’s chapter up to the climax was UPSETTING. Incredibly funny. Someone said the cop character didn’t need to be here but if we didn’t have him we wouldn’t have the addict and that was hilarious, so, bozo alert also nothing personal @Halitosis Jones but not picking up that the cop was the son in law of the chief falls in line with what grimace said about wondering if you people even pay attention lol
Movie fucking ruled, holy shit. Despite enjoying every fold of the plot, there certainly came a time in the middle where we were so far removed from Act I that I began to wonder when and how things would take shape again - could not have imagined a more satisfying climax/conclusion. Those final few minutes had me laughing harder than probably anything else in a good couple of years. One gag I have not seen mentioned was how many times Archer violently chucks James across the living room as he repeatedly gets back up and starts screaming again. Was actually one of those things that happened so many times that it stopped being funny and then suddenly started being twice as funny Cregger is a legend in the making. The scene where Donna is following Justine through the liquor store and gets closer with every turn is the kind of shit people praise about the classics, and he just casually throws it into what is probably the only throwaway scene in two hours. He just really understands tension Also really loved a lot of the set design here? Maybe a weird comment but everything just feels so lived in. It’s not all cold and clean and sleek like modern horror movies usually aim towards. In fact there’s really not any one particular aesthetic being fished for - you go to Alex’s house and it’s like the goddamn Home Alone house, but then Justin Long’s is like a pretty average 1970s build and Brolin’s place is like a super modern type of thing. Idk why but that sort of thing sticks out to me in the context of like, oh yeah these kids all go to the same school but aren’t all from same side of the tracks. Just feels realistic. Alex has sooo much walking to do to get to his affluent neighborhood from the school
Also I got up to pee twice. Maybe the Han Solo is Dale Gribble's son in law explainer part was during that I dunno lol
it does kinda establish leading to his involvement in the end of the movie though … he has the morning where his wife finds out he cheated, he sees the father in law eyeing him through his office window as he walks by making him paranoid his wife told her dad, he sees the addict across the street and loses it
I actually really like the discussion that's gone down in here, both for and against the movie and certain points of it. I don't think anyone has been like "Yo this movie sucks fuck this" yet, qualms with points of the movie have been described and wondered about, which I think is fair. I still love it but it does do its own share of hand waving for the sake of enjoying the story it's telling, which I personally don't mind.
