It Never Ends - tough pick, but I had to go with this one. It was our first introduction to There Is a Hell..., which I think is a good representation of the album as a whole. (Also, I wanted to bring up the music video, as well, as it's just some of their best visually).
It Never Ends is the winner of There Is a Hell... SEMPITERNAL BRACKET Round 1: Crooked Young Vs. Go To Hell, For Heaven's Sake The House of Wolves Vs. Sleepwalking Can You Feel My Heart Vs. Shadow Moses
This is where I start to have opinions on things. Pretty much all of those except Crooked Young are my favourites on this so this first round is pretty tough.
Go To Hell, For Heavens Sake Sleepwalking Can You Feel My Heart - this song blew my mind when it first came out. The synths are so good. Such a great intro.
Go To Hell, For Heaven's Sake (Initially I was leaning toward Crooked Young because I do tend to prefer their heavier side but Go To Hell, For Heaven’s Sake is just so catchy and sounds huge) The House of Wolves (Brutal - these may be my two favorite songs on the album. I’ll give the edge to The House Of Wolves for its breakdown) Shadow Moses (Another really tough one - Can You Feel My Heart really nails the “electronicore” sound they were going for but I’ll give the edge to the heavier, more aggressive song in this case)
Crooked Young - Such a bop! This is just such a good song from this era of BMTH. I don't particularly like how bitter the lyrics are on this record, but song channels such an intense energy. The House of Wolves - This one was tough, I'm a little uncomfortable with the religion bashing aspect of this song, but that chorus is infectious. Hooks for days on this one. Can You Feel My Heart - You can't deny this song's impact in the band's legacy. This song foreshadowed the band's poppier inclinations, but still stayed impactful and is a modern classic. And that bridge is iconic. Admittedly, Shadow Moses was a huge song for them too, but was just a bit too generic to win this one, at least for me.
Go To Hell, For Heaven's Sake – This is one bouncy ass MF! The House of Wolves – This one is brutal. But I'll give the edge to The House of Wolves because of what a banger it is live. Shadow Moses – Not easy either. I love them both. My nostalgia is stronger with Shadow Moses though. Saw its live premiere a few months before it was released and it happened to be during one of the best days of my life up until that point. This album starts off exceptionally strong. The first seven tracks are a 10/10 run. But when Seen It All Before follows the already slow burner that is And the Snakes Start to Sing, that's when this album takes a hard drop for me. Hospital for Souls is amazing on Live at Wembley though.
Go To Hell, For Heaven's Sake The House of Wolves Shadow Moses I love Can You Feel My Heart, but I love Shadow Moses more.
Final scores: Crooked Young - 1 Go To Hell, For Heaven's Sake - 10 The House of Wolves - 4 Sleepwalking - 7 Can You Feel My Heart - 4 Shadow Moses - 7 Round 2: Hospital For Souls Vs.
