Ha, at this point it’s probably just best to let him finish what he started! It is going to be the last round after all.
Final scores: Drown - 5 Shadow Moses- 3 It Never Ends - 7 Ludens - 1 FINAL ROUND EVER: Drown Vs. it Never Ends
Drown is the only song that makes sense to win in my opinion. It marked the end of an era-- Metalcore BMTH died when it was released, and Rock BMTH was born. Shortly after it came out, 5SOS of all fucking bands covered it. I started hearing it on the radio. It was absolutely massive, and deserved every bit of that acclaim. I'm listening to it with headphones on right now, on the bus, and I just feel like I'm in my own world. It hits you with a massive wall of guitars and that awesome choral melody. Then the verse starts with lush guitars and Oli's soft vocals. "What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Wish You Were Dead" is a lyric only BMTH could pull off without sounding cheesy. Then it builds up so much energy with the cool delay guitars before dropping out to the PreChorus, and then as it beautifully builds back up and Oli's vocals hit so hard. And that chorus just explodes-- it feels like getting consumed by a tidal wave. And that final bridge hits so hard as the backing vocals swell and Oli begs for help. This song is an anthem for anyone who's ever felt lost, alone, or depressed. Very few songs create such an emotional impact. I remember blastimg this song in like 8th grade and crying because I never felt so represented in music before. This is it-- this is the one.
Drown This was a really solid final round - one of their best "old" songs up against one of their best "new" songs! In the end, I'm going to go with Drown because I think it's possibly the catchiest song that they've ever written and it's emotional and showcases their mature songwriting. A big thank you to @Micool1 for running this bracket! It made me check out the new EP and during the course of this bracket I'd say that That's The Spirit grew on me a bit while Suicide Season may have dropped a bit in my rankings. In any case, it's been fun!
This is such a tough decision, but I also knew from the beginning that Drown had to win. This is the song that show and will continue to show everyone who hasn't heard of BMTH. I remember being blown away by this song the first time I heard it, and I find a new thing to like about it every time I listen. Yeah, Drown is my vote for sure. What a fun bracket!
It Never Ends. I agree with all the praise above and drown is perhaps their most important song, but INE was also a transition point when it landed, is just as emotional, and imo has the most cathartic outro in their discog.
