Dang I thought sleepwalking would win that round. that said I vote shadow moses. Go to hell is great but the chorus is a bit too radio-y for me.
Shadow Moses That wasn’t too tough. After a revisit of this album I’d put Shadow Moses as my second favorite and Go To Hell, For Heaven’s Sake would fall somewhere in the fourth through sixth favorite of mine depending on my mood.
Ok no need to keep this open any longer. Shadow Moses is the winner of the Sandpit Turtle bracket. THAT'S THE SPIRIT BRACKET Round 1: Blasphemy Vs. Oh No What You Need Vs. Run Avalanche Vs. Follow You
Oh No - This song is one of my favorites ever. Great lyrics, great vibe, always gets me in my feelings. Run - Omg, I forgot about this one. I love the cut-up vocals, and the little delay guitar riff. And the drums in the second verse, damn. The bridge is so great too. Follow You - Such a great song. This is the type of thing that an earlier BMTH would never write, but it's so good. Massive, anthemic, emo, I love it. This album is so underrated, every song hits HARD.
Oh no Run Avalanche. Thought I’d vote follow you for how catchy it is, and these are far and away the 2 best songs in this round, but I like how desperate this song sounds.
Blasphemy (I really am not huge on either of these songs...Oh No is fine, but it really doesn't do much for me. Blasphemy is a little bit closer to the style of theirs that I'm a fan of so I guess I'll go with it) What You Need (I'm kind of lukewarm on both of these ones too...I enjoy What You Need a little more than Run, but admittedly some of the lyrics in What You Need are pretty bad) Follow You (It's a shame these are matched against each other this round because I like these both a fair amount - I'll give the edge to Follow You because I like its lyrics and it's a bit more memorable for me) ---------------- For me, this album is a pretty steep drop-off from Sempiternal. The songs aren't bad - I just am not a huge fan on the direction they went at times.
Damn you for making me vote between Follow You and Avalanche this early. blasphemy What you need Avalanche
Oh No Run Follow You I didn’t listen to this album much when it first came out, but started last year and I really love it. I can’t turn it off once I start it. They did the pop rock transition very well.
Final scores: Blasphemy - 2 Oh No- 7 What You Need - 2 Run - 7 Avalanche - 5 Follow You - 4 Round 2: Drown Vs. Oh No Doomed Vs. Throne Happy Song Vs. Run True Friends Vs. Avalanche
Drown Doomed Happy Song Avalanche True Friends is the only track on the album, and one of very few BMTH songs overall, that I skip instantly. "I WOULDN'T HOLD M-" I... I just can't...
Drown - I hate that this song was pit against my other favorite on this album. But this song hits so hard. The descending choir vocal riff is classic, and I love Oli'a voice. And the little delay guitar on the second part of the verse, then the clean guitar on the prechorus, then you get hit with that massive chorus. I love the lyrics too, it's so emotionally charged. Beautiful song. Doomed - Definitely a hard one, but I think this is a great album opener. It feels apocalyptic, almost. And that chorus-- ooh. Underrated as hell. Happy Song - This song is iconic-- the cheerleader chant and driving guitars makes such a unique atmosphere. This song was also just a great inteoduction to Oli's new vocal style. He sounds so chill and badsss here. True Friends - In my opinion this is a perfect BMTH song. SOOOO DAMN CATCHY. Hooks for days: the little orchestral riff, the chunky guitars, the bass. The PreChorus is massive! (You Got A Lot Of NERVE. But Not A Lot Of SPINE.) And the whole "true friends stab you in the front" is cheesy, but also kinda clever.
Drown (This was an easy pick for me - Drown may be my favorite song on the album and it's among my favorite songs of theirs. I like it from a lyrical and musical standpoint and it's pretty much what I'm looking for from them these days) Throne (This was really difficult for me - I think these are two of the better songs on the album and they're about dead even for me. I'll give the slight edge to Throne just because I like how catchy it is) Happy Song (Another fairly easy decision for me - Run is a solid song, but I'm a sucker for their heavier side) Avalanche (I legitimately hate the lyric "true friends stab you in the front" and I'll vote against True Friends every change I get - I know it's an Oscar Wilde quote but I think it just sounds so clunky and juvenile)
