This record was recorded at the same studio in west Texas that Big Thief did Two Hands and Bon Iver did a lot of i,i last year. Just saying--something good happening out there
both singles have been stellar but I think "Fire" is my favorite of the two after spinning both repeatedly yesterday. there's just something special about that song.
Waxahatchee striking the perfect balance between Americana and melodic gymnastics of the Dirty Projectors. Does this make sense? “Fire” leans more towards DP’ “Lilacs” more towards Americana. Her diction even reminds me of Texas country sometimes
I've listened to Fire multiple times a day since it came out. really hope the rest of the album lives up to it.
melodic gymnastics also resonates w me, that's a good way of putting it. kinda explains why these songs remind me so much of frances quinlan's stuff haha
The singles have been so good. They give me a very strong sense that this is going to be one of those albums, like a genuine career defining record. I was very hopeful that this was the direction she would take the project after those Jason Molina covers she did with Kevin Morby.
I’d have been perfectly content with Ivy Tripp being the only Waxahatchee record I love (I think the others are good, they just never clicked w/ me) but “Fire” and “Lilacs” have quickly become my favourite songs Katie’s ever written. Can’t anticipate this album enough now.
These two new songs are absolutely amazing. I've been listening to pretty much nothing but her lately and while I really love her last two records... if the rest of this album are of the same quality of this these two songs, this is gonna be by far my fav thing she's released
So, so good. This record is going to be something special and will definitely take over my spring/summer music listening
